With new coaches bring change, especially the new systems Devils Head Coach Lindy Ruff and his staff have implemented with the team. Five days out from their home opener, New Jersey is finding their way and adjusting to this style of play.
"The first three days or so of camp, guys were certainly starting to get the grasp on what the new system was," said forward Miles Wood. "It's never been played before, so you know guys are trying to wrap their head around it. And now that we've had 10 days or so, we're certainly getting a grip on it. I think we'll catch teams by surprise with just how quick we are and the system plays to that."
"I don't think a single team in the National Hockey League has ever played the systems that we've played," according to Wood. "I've certainly haven't played against it. I think that it's a system that people will get caught by surprise. And I think that will help us."

The Devils play their final Camp Game on Sunday at 7:00 PM ET and it will be streamed live once again on NewJerseyDevils.com.
Goaltender Scott Wedgewood has had a front-row seat to see how the new systems play out in front of him on the ice, and he said he's seen an attention to detail brought to the team.
"I think it's just some attention to detail," said Wedgewood. "I know it's a bit of a change for some guys. Obviously a lot of communication and tightening up the [defensive] zone and then obviously utilizing our speed and offensive abilities."
"From my perspective the guys have been taking to it pretty quickly and we're all learning and adapting to it. A new system but [Ruff's] got a positive attitude and the room's really light and good view toward the upcoming season. Obviously it's going to be short and fast paced but we're all excited to get going and see what we can do."
With a system focused on speed and skill, the team's young core and deep pool of young players will be a positive according to Wood.
"Certainly this year plays in our favor for sure, just only playing 56 games here, playing almost three and a half games a week, it suits our young legs and we're up for the challenge."
