CALGARY, Alta. -In overtime, Fabian Zetterlund netted his second of the game to give the Devils 4-3 win over the Calgary Flames. The Devils pick up six out of six possible points on the Western Canada road trip.
"We know he's a good shooter, got a lot of success at the American League. I think the first goal was the right place at the right time," Devils head coach Lindy Ruff said on Zetterlund. "Watching our power play at the end there we decided we needed a shooter and we're putting him on one side and Sharangovich on the other but it never got to Sharangovich. But Zetterlund hit a heck of a shot to win the game."
"I think our whole line works pretty ell," said Zetterlund. "We fit each other pretty good. We're on a winning streak right now so we're just going to keep playing ... we are strong team, fast team, we knew we had it back there. We just had to show it."
The home team took an early 1-0 lead when Nazem Kadri scored a minute and a half into the first period. However, the Devils would respond with three goals in the first period. Nate Bastian, Fabian Zetterlund, and Miles Wood all scored for the Devils. Jack Hughes, Tomas Tatar, Nico Hischier, Miles Wood, Michael McLeod, and Nate Bastian all picked up assists on the first period goals.
Calgary started to chip away at a comeback, with Elias Lindholm scoring 4:48 into the second period to reduce the Devils lead to one. Halfway through the middle frame, the Devils got into some penalty trouble. Jonas Siegenthaler was sent to the box for interference and then with 26 seconds left on the penalty, Erik Haula was sent to the box for cross-checking. New Jersey killed off both penalties, showing the strength of a penalty kill ranked in the top-5 of all NHL teams.
Like in the second, the Flames scored early in the third period. Nikita Zadorov's goal tied the game at three and former Devil Blake Coleman picked up the primary assist. Neither team was able to get the go-ahead goal in the third period and the game went to overtime. In extra time, the Devils got a power play 1:15 into the five minute period. Zetterlund scored to win the game.
"I worked hard for it," said Zetterlund. "I know when the puck is coming there I won't miss."

WHAT'S NEXT
The Devils return home and will host the Flames on Tuesday.
Here are some observations from the game...
-There are five players who have four game points streaks coming out of the Western Canada roadtrip. Miles Wood has seven points (4G, 3A), Nico Hischier has five points (2G, 3A), Nathan Bastian has five points (1G, 4A), Michael McLeod has four points (1G, 3 A) and Tomas Tatar has four points (0G, 4A).
-The line of Nate Bastian, Michael McLeod, and Miles Wood, or the 'BMW line,' had five points in the game. All three forwards are on four game points streaks and have combined for 16 points during that time.
"Things are going pretty well right now," said Bastian. "(We) stick to the basics, we play such a simple game, keep doing that, and hopefully we get results like we do right now."
-Vitek Vanecek got the start with Mackenzie Blackwood out with a lower body injury. In the game, the netminder had 27 saves on 30 shots.
"He made some big saves for us," Ruff said post-game. "Teams need goaltending and I thought they got some big saves, we got some big saves and then it was going to be decided by maybe a great shot or a tough bounce."
-Special teams units for both teams were put to work in this game. Calgary had three penalties in the first 25 minutes of the game, while the Devils had three in the middle frame. It was 4-on-4 hockey in the final six minutes of the second period when both Miles Wood and Brett Richie were called for high-sticking. New Jersey was able to convert on the overtime power play opportunity but went 0/4 in regulation.
"We've been trying the same group and we've had a little bit of chemistry but not a lot of quick one-timers or shots off the flank so we might have to makes some adjustments but for those guys to get that one at the end, huge goal for us," said Ruff.
"Tonight was a little bit sloppier, when you get a power play you want to make sure you use it as momentum for the team whether you score or not," said Bastian. "You want to get chances, sometimes it's not crispy enough, maybe a little bit of urgency, those things we want to clean up for sure."
-The Devils are now on a six-game winning streak and in the last two games, New Jersey has had a 'never give up' mentality to win these games.
"You're going to have to win games in a lot of different ways," Ruff said. "To find ways to win, you can't always win it in an easy fashion and tonight was not an easy fashion.
"Having a 3-1 lead and giving that up, last year possibly that would have gone the other way, but we found a way to end up winning that game."
The Devils now return home with a 3-0 record from a three-game road trip and will host the Flames on Tuesday. New Jersey will host three games (Calgary, Ottawa, Arizona) before going back on the road to Montreal, Toronto, and Ottawa.
