Ahead of the Devils game against the Pittsburgh Penguins, New Jersey announced the call up of forward Chase DeLeo from the Utica Comets (AHL). This is the forward's second time joining the main club this season. DeLeo played in the Devils Nov. 24 and Nov. 26 games and has seven career NHL games under his belt.
Through 13 games with the Comets, DeLeo has three goals and 13 assists for a total of 16 points. Tied with Reilly Walsh for a team leading 13 assists, DeLeo is also second on the team with assists.
DeLeo is a welcomed healthy body for a Devils lineup that played shorthanded last night due to 10 unavailable players. New Jersey has five players on the NHL's COVID protocol list: P.K. Subban, Ryan Graves, Nico Hischier, Jesper Boqvist, and Christian Jaros and five players absent due to injury: Mackenzie Blackwood (neck), Jesper Bratt (non-COVID related illness), Tyce Thompson (IR, upper body), Miles Wood (IR, hip), Jonathan Bernier (IR, hip).
