Josh Filmon gave himself and the Swift Current Broncos quite an early Christmas present on Friday night.
The Devils prospect scored six goals - yes, you're reading that correctly - in an 8-4 win over the Edmonton Oil Kings. All six came during a 36-minute span in the first two periods, including a natural hat trick in the second.
"It was one of those nights," explained Filmon, from Red Deer, where the Broncos will play the Rebels tonight before an eight-day holiday break.
"Everything I touched went into the back of the net."

Not quite everything, as it turned out. Filmon missed on a third-period breakaway that would have tied the Western Hockey League single-game record of seven held by five others, including retired NHLers Brian Propp, Ray Ferraro and Kimbi Daniels.
"We were shorthanded…on a breakaway, I made a good move, but he made a really good save," said Filmon, tipping his cap to Edmonton goaltender Ronin Geraghty. "I showed him forehand and then went to the backhand, but he stopped it."
Filmon became the first player to pot a half-dozen goals in a single game since long-time NHLer Tyler Ennis in 2009.
Filmon now has 20 goals and 14 assists in 25 games this season. He was the Devils sixth-round (166th overall) selection in last summer's NHL Draft.
It's hard to find fault in a six-goal game but was Filmon annoyed with himself not cashing-in late to tie the WHL mark?
"I tried not to show it but yeah, I was, just a little," he said.
In fact, Filmon had a poker face throughout the scoring splurge. His celebrations were muted - the hallmark of any sniper is how familiar you are at scoring goals. Truth be told, all but his first marker showed a certain degree of skill - the first was more of a tap-in.
After Saturday's game, Filmon is due to fly home to Winnipeg from Edmonton, the Alberta capital is about a 90-minute drive north of Red Deer, home base of former Devils coach Brent Sutter, who is the long-time owner of the Rebels.
Filmon has one previous hat trick playing in the WHL - two days after Christmas last year.
"I'm looking forward to the break…it's a bit weird this year, (the time off) is longer than normal," he said.
If Filmon continues his current form, he won't get one next season. The 18-year-old has his eye on a spot on Team Canada for next year's World Junior Championship to be held in Gothenburg, Sweden. Like a significant swath of the host country, he will be watching this year's event on TV.
Filmon is part of an impressive group of 2004-born players from Winnipeg. The Manitoba capital is also home to 2022 first-round picks Conor Geekie (11th overall, Arizona), Denton Mateychuk (12th overall, Columbus) and his Broncos teammate, Owen Pickering (21st overall Pittsburgh).
It's not hard to imagine all four of those Winnipeggers playing together next year on Team Canada.
"For sure, that's a goal," he said when asked of his pursuit of a Team Canada spot.
From a Devils perspective, Filmon is the latest prospect who appears to be providing good value from the draft's later rounds. The prospect cupboard at present has defensemen Ethan Edwards (fourth round, 120th overall) and Topias Vilen (fifth round, 129th overall), plus forwards Artem Shlaine (fifth round, 130th overall) and Petr Hauser (fifth round, 141st overall) all enjoying good seasons, either in Europe or in college hockey.
Since 2016, current Devils Jesper Bratt, Yegor Sharangovich and Akira Schmid were all taken in the fifth or sixth round.
