Shakir Mukhamadullin has arrived in North America.
The 6'4, 20 year old defenseman from Russia has been assigend to the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League from his Kontinental Hockey League club, Yulaev Ufa.
Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald said in his season ending press conference last week that Mukhamdullin had recieved his visa, and would join the Comets as they prepare for their Calder Cup run. That day is here.
Fitzgerald mentioned that Mukhamadullin is expected to be on the ice for practice with the AHL club, however, game play is yet to be determined.
"He'll go down to Utica, he'll watch," Fitzgerald said, "Will he get in some games, depending on the series. We just want to make sure that we put him in a situation that he's comfortable with, that he's comfortable with that he's growing, but with language barrier, North American type of hockey, it should be a great seeing him on the ice with our prospects."
On Dec. 21, 2021 the Russian defenseman
signed a three-year Entry Level Contract
with the Devils.
The Comets begin their playoff series against the Rochester Americans on Tuesday in Utica with Game 1 of the North Division Semifinals.
