Devils defenseman P.K. Subban was announced today as the team's nominee for the 2021-22 King Clancy Memorial Trophy, which is presented to "the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community."
Since his arrival in New Jersey, Subban has been highly active in the New Jersey community, particularly in Newark where Prudential Center is located. Subban has had a unique ability to bring people together and through his Blueline Buddies has continued his efforts to bridge the gap between law enforcement and underserved children, despite the challenges that the pandemic has brought in not always being able to do in-person meet-and-greets. Subban revamped his program over the course of the last two years to take it digital in order to continue his program. He has been a distinguished ambassador for the Devils and the game of hockey.
The virtual experience included video time with P.K. in a designated Devils Zoom room. Prior to the start of every home game, Subban would host a virtual meet-and-greet with the participants, answering any and all questions, and also expressing his deep thanks for their work. Not all of Subban's philanthropic contributions are designed through specific programs. Where P.K. feels there is a need, he has time and again stepped up to make personal donations and awareness to individuals in need.
The winner will be chosen by a committee of senior NHL executives led by commissioner Gary Bettman and deputy commissioner Bill Daly.
