Tierney Signs One-Year, Two-Way Contract with Devils | RELEASE

The New Jersey Devils announced today that the team signed free agent forward Chris Tierney to a one-year, two-way deal worth $775,000 at the NHL level and $400,000 at the American Hockey League (AHL) level. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.

Tierney, who turned 29 on July 1, spent the 2022-23 season with the Florida Panthers (13 games played, 2g-1a-3pts, 2 PIM), the Panthers' AHL affiliate in Charlotte (2GP, 3g-13a-16pts, 10 PIM), and the Montreal Canadiens (23GP, 1g-6a-7pts, 4 PIM). The Panthers had signed him to a one-year, two-way contract July 19, 2022, and was claimed off waivers by the Canadiens on February 23, 2023.

The 6'1", 190 lbs. native of Keswick, Ont. has skated in 597 career NHL games with San Jose (2014-15 to 2017-18), Ottawa (2018-19 to 2021-22), and Florida/Montreal last season. He scored 236 points (76g-160a), and accumulated 114 penalty minutes. Tierney set career highs in assists (39) and points (48) with the Senators in 2018-19 and notched a career-high 17 tallies in 2017-18 with the Sharks. He has skated in 40 career Stanley Cup Playoff games, all with San Jose (2015-16 to 2017-18), and totaled 12 points (5g-7a). He was a member of the Sharks' Western Conference Championship team that played in the 2016 Stanley Cup Final. During his last two seasons in San Jose, he was teammates with current Devil Timo Meier.

Prior to turning pro, Tierney played four seasons (2010-11 to 2013-14) with the London Knights of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL), scoring 191 points (72g-119a) in 247 games. He was a member of London's back-to-back OHL Championship teams in 2012 and 2013. Tierney served as captain in his final OHL season and led the Knights to a third straight Memorial Cup Tournament.

Tierney was selected by San Jose in the second round, 55th overall, in the 2012 NHL Draft.
