Tyce Thompson Contract

The New Jersey Devils today announced that forward Tyce Thompson has signed a two-year contract. The breakdown is a two-way deal in 2022-23 worth $750,000 at the NHL level and $175,000 in the AHL, and a one-way deal in 2023-24 worth $775,000. Thompson was initially scheduled to go to arbitration on August 11. The announcement was made by Executive Vice President/General Manager Tom Fitzgerald.
Thompson, who turned 23 on July 12, skated in two games with New Jersey last season, missing much of the hockey season following shoulder surgery in November 2021. On April 1, he returned to game action with the Utica Comets (AHL) where he posted 15 points (6g-9a) in 16 games and added two points (1g-1a) in five Calder Cup Playoff contests.Drafted with New Jersey's sixth selection (fourth round), and 96th overall in the 2019 NHL Draft, Thompson joined the Devils out of Providence College (Hockey East) on March 23, 2021, and made his NHL debut on April 6, eventually playing in seven games (one assist) with the NHL club. Thompson also played in 11 games (2g-2a) for the club's AHL affiliate in Binghamton.

Thompson spent three seasons, 2018-19 to 2020-21, with Providence. Tyce served as the Friars' captain in his junior year, and scored 25 points (11g-14a) to lead the team in goals/assists/points in 25 games. As a sophomore, he finished second in Hockey East and third in the NCAA in scoring, tallying 19 goals and 25 assists for 44 points in 34 games. That same year, he finished the season tied for second in Hockey East in goals and power-play points (8-13-21). His 15 multi-point games were tied for second nationally while his 27 games with at least a point were tied for first. Through his three seasons at Providence, the right-shot forward scored 38 goals and 56 assists for 94 points with 65 penalty minutes and a plus-18 rating in 101 contests. At Providence, he was teammates with fellow Devils prospect Patrick Moynihan (2019 NHL Draft, sixth round, 158th overall) and recent free agent signing Jack Dugan.
Thompson was named to the Hockey East Second All-Star Team his last collegiate season. He was selected to the NCAA (All-USCHO) Second Team and as a Hockey East Second Team All-Star in 2019-20. Thompson spent two seasons in the USHL with the Dubuque Fighting Saints, posting 12 goals and 20 assists for 32 points in 63 games played. He added one goal in seven playoff games.
Born in Oyster Bay, NY, the 6-1, 180lb., Thompson grew up in Milford, Connecticut. His father, Brent, was drafted by Los Angeles in 1989 and spent six seasons in the NHL. Tyce's brother, Tage, was drafted 26th overall in the 2016 Draft by St. Louis and is currently a forward for the Buffalo Sabres.
