Seasons with the Devils: 1990 - 2014
Number Retired: February 9, 2016
Widely regarded as one of the best NHL goalies of all-time, Martin Brodeur joined the New Jersey Devils in 1991. Brodeur spent 21 years with the Devils, and still holds the majority, if not all, of the team’s goalie records. Topping the categories for most games played, minutes, shutouts, wins, best goals against average, and ties/OT, for the team, franchise and a single-season, it doesn’t get much better than Brodeur. Marty was selected 20th in the 1991 NHL draft and helped the Devils win three Stanley Cups in his tenure. Brodeur was so unstoppable that the NHL instituted a new rule that prevented goaltenders from playing the puck behind the goal line, except within the trapezoid behind the net. Brodeur now serves as the Executive Vice President of Hockey Operations for the Devils.
