Malcolm2

When the Golden Knights claimed Malco;m Subban off waivers from the Boston Bruins, it certainly made Vegas' goaltending situation more crowded.
As well as complicated.
It was supposed to be so simple.
Marc-Andre Fleury and Calvin Pickard in the NHL, Oscar Dansk and Maxime Lagace in the AHL and Jiri Patera, Dylan Ferguson and Maksim Zhukov in juniors.
But now?
We'll see what George McPhee has up his sleeve. It seems unlikely that Subban would have been claimed for the purpose of being sent to the AHL. And with it also not being being realistic to expect Fleury or Pickard to be sent to the AHL, this keeps the Wolves' tandem (Dansk and Lagace) intact.
NHL teams occasionally, but very seldom carry three goalies. Which makes it permissible in the short term, but unlikely in the long term that Fleury, Pickard and Subban all occupy roster spots.
What happens now, we'll see.
In the meantime, here are three fun facts to get to know Malcolm Subban better.

1. Comes from the Bruins
Although while this 23-year-old goaltender has played two games for the Boston Bruins, he has spent the bulk of his pro career since 2013-14 with the AHL's Providence Bruins.
As a goalie, Subban arrives in Vegas at a bit of a crossroads.
The 24th overall pick in the 2012 NHL Draft, Subban was drafted into pro hockey with the expectation of becoming a star. Inconsistency and an NHL roster crease occupied by Tuukka Rask prevented this from ever happening for Subban in Boston.

At 23, he has more than enough time to establish himself as an NHL goalie still, and has the definite skill set to do so.
At the same time, 23 isn't exactly super young for a pro hockey player. This makes what happens in Vegas the defining moments of this player's career.
Although if it doesn't work out, the Golden Knights are in the same spot they were in before claiming him. By giving up no players in this transaction, it is very much low risk, high potential reward.
2. Is the younger brother of PK Subban
Malcolm Subban's older brother is PK Subban, the star defenseman for the Nashville Predators. He also has a younger brother, Jordan, who played against the Golden Knights for the Vancouver Canucks in September 17's preseason game.

3. Is largely influenced by his father
Karl Subban is a principal in the Greater Toronto Area, and a large influencer of his sons' pro hockey careers.
Karl immigrated from Jamaica to Canada in the 1970s, meeting Malcolm's mother, Maria, who had relocated to Canada from Montserrat.
The Subban family also includes two sisters, Nastassia and Natasha, who played basketball at the collegiate level.
