Jonathan Marchessault fired home a rebound in overtime to propel the Vegas Golden Knights (29-22-8) to a 6-5 victory against the St. Louis Blues (32-15-10) on Thursday night at T-Mobile Arena.
HOW IT WENT DOWN
The Blues wasted little time getting on the board as Zach Sanford scored 25 seconds into the game. Max Pacioretty answered by scoring twice in 4:35 to give the Golden Knights the lead. Before the midway mark of the frame, Sanford scored again to tie it before Ivan Barbashev's go-ahead goal at 15:43 to give St. Louis a 3-2 lead through 20 minutes. In the middle period, Sanford completed the hat trick as the Blues went up by two. On a late power play, Jonathan Marchessault scored his 19th goal of the season to bring the Golden Knights to within one heading into the third. After Nate Schmidt leveled the score at 4-4 early in the third, Sanford's fourth of the night rebuilt the St. Louis lead. With less than five minutes to play, Alex Tuch redirected a Jon Merrill shot to knot the score at 5-5. The Golden Knights received a power play in overtime and, at the exact halfway mark of the extra session, Marchessault delivered the final strike for a 6-5 victory.
