VEGAS (May 9, 2022) - Three Vegas Golden Knights players - forward Nicolas Roy, goaltender Logan Thompson and defenseman Zach Whitecloud- have been named to the 2022 Canada Men's National Team that will play at the upcoming IIHF World Championship, Hockey Canada announced today.

All three players will be making their men's national team debuts, although Roy has represented Canada internationally at the Under-20 and Under-18 levels. The 2022 IIHF World Championship is set for May 13-29 in Tampere and Helsinki, Finland.

Roy, 25, was the Golden Knights' Seventh Player Award recipient this season as the player who most exceeded expectations. He posted career highs in games played (78), goals (15), assists (24) and points (39) during his third season with the team. The Amos, QC native was acquired via trade from Carolina in 2019.

Thompson, 25, made his first NHL start this season and compiled a 10-5-3 record in 19 appearances with the Golden Knights. His .914 save percentage led all NHL rookies with at least 10 games played. Last season with the Henderson Silver Knights the Calgary native won the Baz Bastien Memorial Award as the top goaltender in the American Hockey League.

Whitecloud, 25, established career highs in games played (59), goals (8), assists (11), points (19) and plus/minus rating (a team-leading +21) this season, his second full year in the NHL. Since signing as an undrafted free agent in 2018, the Brandon, MB native has played 127 games for the Golden Knights.

Canada will open World Championship play on Friday, May 13 against Germany.
