VEGAS (June 14, 2022) - Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced today, June 14, that the team has named Bruce Cassidy as the team's head coach. Cassidy, a native of Ottawa, becomes the third head coach in franchise history for the Golden Knights.

"The Golden Knights are very pleased to have Bruce come in to coach our team," said Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon. "His success in Boston over six years is extremely impressive. His teams have had a clear identity, having been among the very best in the NHL in terms of goals for, goals against, goal differential and special teams. This is the right coach for our team at this time."
"I am excited to join an organization that shares my commitment to winning and can't wait to get to work with the talent that has been assembled in Vegas," said Golden Knights Head Coach Bruce Cassidy. "It's been impressive to watch the city embrace the Golden Knights from afar, and my family and I look forward to becoming a part of that."
Cassidy owns an overall record of 292-155-53 as a head coach in the NHL, to go with an additional 38 victories in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Cassidy most recently served as head coach of the Boston Bruins, where he was promoted from assistant coach during the 2016-17 NHL season. During Cassidy's tenure as the 28th head coach in Boston, the Bruins qualified for the postseason in each of his six seasons behind the bench. Cassidy and the Bruins reached the Stanley Cup Final in 2019, falling short in seven games against the St. Louis Blues. In the following season, Cassidy led Boston to the best record in the NHL (44-14-12), and he won the Jack Adams Award as the top coach in 2019-20.
Before joining Boston as an assistant coach prior to the 2016-17 campaign, Cassidy spent five seasons (2011-16) as head coach of the organization's AHL affiliate, the Providence Bruins. In Providence, he led the team to an overall record of 207-128-45 in 380 games and qualified for the Calder Cup Playoffs four times.
The 57-year-old has additional NHL experience with the Washington Capitals and was the team's bench boss for two seasons (2002-2004). Cassidy coached the Capitals to a playoff appearance in his first season after compiling a record of 39-29-8 during the 2002-03 regular season.
A defenseman in his playing career, Cassidy appeared in 36 NHL games, all with the Chicago Blackhawks, and collected 17 points (4 G, 13 A). Cassidy also spent time playing in the AHL, OHL and IHL, as well as internationally in Germany and Italy. He was drafted by Chicago in the first round (18th overall) of the 1983 NHL Entry Draft.
