VEGAS (July 28, 2021) - Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmonannounced today, July 28, that the team has signed defenseman Alec Martinez to a three-year contract worth an average annual value of $5,250,000.

Martinez appeared in 53 regular season games with the Vegas Golden Knights last season, registering nine goals and 23 assists. He also tallied four goals and two assists in 19 playoff games. In parts of two seasons with the Golden Knights, Martinez has recorded 40 points (11 G, 29 A) to go with 18 penalty minutes. He is a veteran of 660 NHL games and has tallied 73 goals and 165 assists for 238 points to go with 203 penalty minutes in his NHL career. Martinez also appeared in 103 playoff games, helping lead the Los Angeles Kings to two Stanley Cups in 2012 and 2014. He has recorded 30 points (12 G, 18 A) to go with 43 penalty minutes during the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
The native of Rochester Hills, Michigan has also made two appearances (2018, 2019) with Team USA at the IIHF World Championships. In 2018, Martinez recorded three points (1 G, 2 A) in 10 games to help lead Team USA to a bronze medal.
Martinez was acquired by the Golden Knights from the Los Angeles Kings on February 19, 2020. He was a fourth-round selection (97th overall) during the 2007 NHL Entry Draft by the Kings.

- Represented Team USA at the 2018 and 2019 IIHF World Championships, winning a bronze medal in 2018
- Spent three years at Miami University, recording 67 points (21 G, 46 A) to go with 113 penalty minutes in 123 games and earned Second Team All-America honors following the 2007-08 season in 123 games and earned Second Team All-America honors following the 2007-08 season
