VGK Sign Free Agent Defenseman Ryan Murphy To AHL Contract

VEGAS (August 14, 2020) - Vegas Golden Knights General Manager Kelly McCrimmon announced today, August 14, that the Vegas Golden Knights American Hockey League affiliate, the Henderson Silver Knights, has signed free agent defenseman Ryan Murphy to an AHL contract for the 2020-21 season.

The Aurora, Ontario native most recently played in the Kontinental Hockey League for the HC Neftekhimik Nizhnekamsk. Murphy recorded 23 points (8 G, 15 A) to go with 22 PIM in his lone season in Nizhnekamsk, Russia. Murphy is also an AHL veteran, having appeared 195 games in parts of seven seasons. He has recorded 119 points (17 G, 102 A) to go with 90 PIM for three teams: the Charlotte Checkers, Minnesota Wild and Binghamton Devils.

Murphy has appeared in 175 NHL games for three teams: the Carolina Hurricanes, Minnesota Wild and New Jersey Devils. He has recorded 43 points (8 G, 35 A) to go with 54 penalty minutes. Murphy was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the first round (12th overall) of the 2011 NHL Entry Draft.
