Game Preview: Islanders vs Devils

The New York Islanders return to Barclays Center on Monday night, as they take on the New Jersey Devils in preseason action at 7 p.m.
The Islanders (3-0-2 in preseason play) have whittled their training camp roster down to 25 active skaters, so the remaining three exhibition games will be close to the opening night roster.
These next three games for Doug Weight will be tinkering and evaluating line combinations and giving young players a chance to play with established veterans in meaningful roles. Mathew Barzal spent the weekend practicing with the Islanders' top power-play unit, so he could be auditioning for the role on Monday.

John Tavares will play in his second preseason game on Monday, as he looks to gel with Jordan Eberle before the start of the regular season. Tavares scored two goals, including the OT winner last Sunday at NYCB Live - Nassau Coliseum.
The Devils haven't quite narrowed the field, as Monday's game is a split-squad affair for New Jersey, with half of the Devils' training camp roster playing in Prince Edward Island for Kraft Hockeyville. Islanders fans will recognize a few names on the Devils roster in Brooklyn, including former Islander Brian Strait, forward Bracken Kearns and Long Island native Keith Kinkaid.
The Devils are 3-0-1 in preseason play.
