Fresh off a
dominating 7-1 win over the Anaheim Ducks
, the New York Islanders look to carry that momentum into a Tuesday night tilt with the San Jose Sharks at UBS Arena (7:30 p.m., MSGSN).
The Islanders offense exploded in the win, scoring more goals in a game than the team did in the entirety of the 2021-22 season. The output reflected the Islanders new aggressive and up-tempo identity that Lane Lambert is looking to impart in his first season as the team's head coach.

"I thought we tried to play fast and transition the puck, which we've been talking about," Lambert said. "We made good on our chances too, it was nice to see us execute on those chances."
With the win, Lambert earned his first official win as the Isles head coach.
The Sharks enter Tuesday's contest in search of their first win this season, starting the year on a four-game losing streak. San Jose's most recent loss was a 5-2 defeat at home vs Chicago.
The Islanders will wear their
third jerseys on Tuesday night
, the first of eight games in the alternate threads.

ISLANDERS NOTES:
  • The Islanders got five goals from their blue line on Saturday, with Scott Mayfield and Robin Salo each netting a pair, while Noah Dobson also scored. Per Islanders statistician Eric Hornick "It is the first time that either happened since January 12, 1993, vs. Calgary, when Vladimir Malakhov and Scott Lachance scored twice, and Jeff Norton also scored."
    - Cal Clutterbuck and Oliver Wahlstrom both made their season debuts on Saturday night. Clutterbuck made his season debut with four hits, three shots on goal and five total attempts in 12:03 TOI on a line with Matt Martin and Casey Cizikas. Wahlstrom recorded a goal and an assist, two shots and two hits in 9:33 TOI on a line with Josh Bailey and JG Pageau.
    - The Islanders penalty kill is 9-for-9 this season. Alexander Romanov leads the Islanders with 8:28 SH TOI, while JG Pageau leads Islanders forwards with 7:39 SH TOI through two games. Lambert credited the play of Ilya Sorokin has being a key part of the PK.
"He was good, and sharp in both games, he was especially exceptional on the three versus five the other night," Lambert said of Sorokin. "We have some new guys into the mix and they are acclimatizing themselves well, but we are just trying to stay aggressive in all three zones and we have a pretty good idea of what our structure should be and we're sticking to it as best as we possibly can, but we've had some good saves."

    - Ilya Sorokin has started both games of the season for the Islanders. The Russian netminder is 1-1-0 with a 1.52 GAA and a .941 SV%.
    - With three assists vs Anaheim, Anders Lee recorded his 369th career point as an Islander, tying Kyle Okposo and Stefan Persson for 16th all time on the franchise's all-time points list.
    - The Islanders are 5-1-1 in their last seven home games against the Sharks and are 4-1-3 in their last eight overall vs San Jose.
SHARKS NOTES:
  • The Sharks are 0-4-0 to start the season, including a pair of losses to the Nashville Predators in the 2022 NHL Global Series in Prague. After returning to North America, San Jose dropped a 2-1 decision to the Carolina Hurricanes in their home opener on Friday and most recently fell 5-2 to the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. The Sharks did not lose four straight games in regulation last season, but they were mired in an 0-6-4 winless stretch from Mar. 30 - Apr. 17 last year.
    - The Sharks overhauled their front office over the summer, as longtime GM Doug Wilson stepped down due to health concerns last season and eventually retired over the summer. Wilson was replaced by former NHLer Mike Grier, who played 14 seasons from 1996-2011, including three years with the Sharks.
In addition to hiring Grier, the Sharks named David Quinn as the team's 11th Head Coach, replacing Bob Boughner. Quinn previously coached the New York Rangers from 2018-21, amassing a 96-87-25 record.
Former Islanders Head Coach and Assistant General Manager Doug Weight was named Hockey Operations Advisor, while former Islanders Head Coach Scott Gordon was named to Quinn's coaching staff.
    - The Sharks also made sizable changes to the team's roster, notably dealing away defenseman Brent Burns to the Carolina Hurricanes. Burns had 594 points in 798 games over 11 seasons with the Sharks, making him the highest-scoring defenseman in team history and the fifth-leading scorer overall.
    - The Sharks are 12-for-12 on the penalty kill this season. Last season the Sharks had the NHL's second-ranked PK at 85.2%.
    - Timo Meier led the Sharks in goals (35) and points (76) last season. Meier has one assist through four games this season.
