The Community Hero for November 2024 is Suffolk County Police Officer Sameer Malik

Officer Sameer Malik of the Suffolk County Police Dept., 6th Precinct, was recently awarded a Command Recognition Award for responding to an aided case where Officer Malik helped deliver a healthy newborn baby. Plus, he was also recently awarded a Headquarters Commendation for responding to a suicidal incident and successfully negotiating the victim to safety. If that’s not all, he is a board member of the Suffolk County Asian Jade Society, which is a non for profit charitable fraternal organization that engages in multicultural events within the community and he volunteers his time to help the underprivileged and veteran community.

Malik was born and raised in the United Arab Emirates. At the age of 15, he immigrated to the United States with his family where in 2009 he graduated Brentwood High School in New York.

Sameer earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Biology from Stony Brook University and went on to work in the pharmaceutical industry as a scientist. During this time Sameer earned his EMT certification and volunteered for Brentwood Legion Ambulance. Sameer also volunteered as a suicide prevention/crisis counselor for Response of Suffolk County.

In September of 2019, Sameer attended Suffolk County Police Academy. He currently serves as a police officer for Suffolk County Police Department, 6th Precinct located in Selden, NY.

Sameer is currently a certified Bilingual officer in both Hindi and Urdu languages. Additionally, he has also completed multiple courses offered by the Suffolk County Police Department including RADAR/LIDAR, Advanced Roadside Impaired Driver Enforcement (ARIDE), crisis intervention team training, and Field training officer (FTO) course.

In August of 2024, Sameer received recognition from Suffolk County Police Department for a successful delivery of a child on an aided call.

Sameer is a proud member of the Suffolk County Police Asian Jade Society, a nonprofit police fraternal, that promotes strong relations between Asian American law enforcement officers and the communities they serve. Sameer initially was a trustee and currently serves as the treasurer for the society. He continues to serve the community as a Police Officer while also focusing his volunteer efforts in assisting other local nonprofits.
