As the nation recognizes Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month and its Sept. 15 start date, the Kraken are joining in the celebration with fan events and exhibits. The mid-September to mid-October initiative kicks off the team's season-long Hockey is for Everyone calendar advocating for diversity and inclusion in the sport of hockey at all levels.
Hispanic and Latinx Heritage Month will feature engaging and fun activations for Kraken fans and community members to commemorate the independence of several Latin America countries. Here's dates to remember:

If you are wondering about NHL players and leaders with Hispanic and Latinx Heritage, you can start by recognizing that Toronto Maple Leafs superstar and elite goal scorer Auston Matthews grew up playing hockey in Arizona, becoming the No. 1 overall pick in the 2016 NHL Draft and winning rookie of the year honors for the 2016-17 season. His mother is originally from Hermosillo, Mexico.
Bill Guerin notched 18 seasons in the NHL, playing on two Stanley Cup-winning teams in New Jersey and Pittsburgh. He is general manager of the Minnesota Wild. He is the son of a Nicaraguan mother who took the family back to her country for yearly visits during Guerin's childhood. His Irish-American father found it equally important for the Guerin kids to visit their mom's homeland.
There are NHL fans who think Scott Gomez, born in Alaska from Mexican and Columbian parents, was the first player of Hispanic heritage to play in the NHL. In fact, Guerin was the first to do so and is the first general manager of Hispanic and Latinx descent.
