Aaron Ekblad of Panthers out with concussion

Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad and forward Denis Malgin each will be out of the lineup 7-10 days because of a concussion, coach Tom Rowe said Monday.
Ekblad was injured on a hit to the head from Tampa Bay Lightning forward Gabriel Dumont in the second period of a 3-2 loss Saturday.

"We just have to take it day by day," Rowe said. "We'll see how he progresses. I talked to him [Monday] and he said he felt pretty good. But he's definitely not ready to go back into the lineup."

Ekblad has 21 points (10 goals, 11 assists) in 67 games. He missed four games because of a concussion last season.
"We have a great medical team here," Rowe said. "They've had a lot experience with him, so he's in good hands. We just have to go through the NHL protocol and see how he progresses."
Malgin, who left the game against Tampa Bay in the second period after he was hit by defenseman Anton Stralman, has eight points (four goals, four assists) in 42 games.
Florida recalled defenseman MacKenzie Weegar from Springfield of the American Hockey League on Monday.
The Panthers, who trail the Toronto Maple Leafs by seven points for the second wild card into the Stanley Cup Playoffs from the Eastern Conference, play Toronto at BB&T Center on Tuesday (7:30 p.m. ET; FS-F, TSN4, TVA Sports, NHL.TV).
