Ducks end Hurricanes winning streak at 5 behind 51 saves from Gibson

RALEIGH, N.C. --John Gibson made 51 saves for the Anaheim Ducks, who ended the Carolina Hurricanes' winning streak at five with a 3-2 victory at PNC Arena on Saturday.

It is the third time in his past six games that Gibson has made at least 50 saves.
"Hard-fought game. I'm pretty tired," Gibson said. "Pretty good trip overall with five points (2-1-1), but we just have to keep going. Overall, nice to get the win."

John Klingberg, Jakob Silfverberg and Troy Terry scored for the Ducks (19-34-7), who have won two in a row. Trevor Zegras and Ryan Strome each had two assists.
"John gives us everything he has each and every night. (He's a) highly competitive kid," Anaheim coach Dallas Eakins said. "I think he showed tonight what kind of impact he can have on a game. That's a top-three team in the League, if not the top team in the League. We were able to hang in there by a thread.
"You know what you're coming into (against Carolina) as a team. We're at the other end of the spectrum, trying to build something similar years from now. We knew, and John knew himself, that he was going to be tested."
Jesperi Kotkaniemi and Jesper Fast scored for the Hurricanes (39-11-8), who were coming off a 4-0 win against the Ottawa Senators on Friday. Frederik Andersen made 12 saves.
"You play that game 10 times, you're going to win nine of them," Carolina coach Rod Brind'Amour said. "It was a bunch of great opportunities, we just didn't put it in. We gave up some chances, but you've got to give up some in a game. Their goalie was good."
Klingberg gave the Ducks a 1-0 lead at 16:18 of the second period with a one-timer from the right face-off circle blocker side on Andersen.
Silfverberg made it 2-0 at 4:06 of the third period when he was left all alone in the low slot and finished a pass from Strome from behind the net.

Kotkaniemi answered 13 seconds later to cut the lead to 2-1, chasing down a lofted pass from Jaccob Slavin and snapping a shot blocker side on Gibson on a breakaway.
"We had [53] pucks on the net, we just hoped a couple more would go in," Kotkaniemi said. "There's still some sleepy moments once in a while. We could be a little sharper."
Terry responded for Anaheim to push it to 3-1 at 12:01. He warded off Brett Pesce as he cut across the slot, turned in the left circle and scored short side on Andersen.
Terry has scored in consecutive games since returning from an upper-body injury that caused him to miss seven games.
"I'm just trying to judge myself on if I'm an impact player or not, and I felt like tonight I was," Terry said. "I cut into the middle, I was on the backhand, so I tried to get some separation and spin around and shoot it. Even after I spun, I had an idea where the net was, and I was just trying to put it in the upper part."

Fast cut it to 3-2 at 13:35 when he redirected Pesce's one-timer from the right point.
Some of Gibson's best saves came in the third period, when Carolina outshot Anaheim 18-3. Andrei Svechnikov had a clean look from just below the left face-off circle with 1:44 remaining, but Gibson got across the crease to make a right-pad save at the left post.
"It's hard not to talk about our goalie, first and foremost. He's one of, if not the best, goalie in the world. You saw that tonight," Terry said. "It's natural they're going to outshoot you. We tried our best to limit in-the-slot shots. It was a game that we had to dig in, even when the shot board said otherwise."
NOTES:Anaheim swept the season series with Carolina. … The Hurricanes are 7-1-1 in the second game of a back-to-back this season.
