METROPOLITAN DIVISION CLUBS PICK UP VICTORIES

The Pittsburgh Penguins and Washington Capitals each earned wins and are 11-4-2 (24 points), trailing only the Rangers (13-5-0, 26 points) for first place in the Metropolitan Division:
* Kris Letangscored at 1:24 of overtime as the Penguins improved to 4-1-1 in their last six road games. Letang scored his fourth career regular-season overtime goal to pass Sergei Gonchar (three) for the most by a defenseman in franchise history. Matt Murray (20 saves) is now 5-1-0 (1.68 GAA, .945 SV%, 1 SO).
* Braden Holtby made 25 saves and Jay Beagle scored with 5:11 left in the third period to help the Capitals improve to 6-2-0 at Verizon Center. Holtby won his third straight decision and improved to 9-3-1 overall (1.91 GAA, .930, 1 SO). The Elias Sports Bureau adds that Holtby became the first Capitals goaltender to shut out the Red Wings since Bob Mason on Dec. 9, 1984 (4-0 W).

HOSSA LIFTS BLACKHAWKS PAST FLAMES

Marian Hossa redirected the puck into the net with 2:23 left in the third period to give the Chicago Blackhawks a 3-2 victory. Chicago is 10-1-2 in its past 13 games and 12-4-2 (26 points) overall, tops in the Central Division.
* Corey Crawford (28 saves) improved to 8-1-1 in his past 10 games after starting the season 1-3-1.
* The Blackhawks are 10-0-5 in their past 15 games vs. the Flames dating to Feb. 2, 2013 (CGY: 5-9-1).

FIVE-GAME DOCKET SET FOR HOCKEY NIGHT IN CANADA

Hockey Night in Canada features five games on Saturday.
