The 22-year-old undrafted defenseman played four seasons for Arizona State University. He had 37 points (11 goals, 26 assists), third among NCAA defensemen, in 36 games this season. His points and assists set Arizona State records.
"Brinson is an excellent puck-moving defenseman with a physical brand of hockey," Sharks general manager Doug Wilson said. "As captain for the Sun Devils program for two seasons under Arizona State head coach Greg Powers, he is a great teammate and proven leader. We are happy to have him join our organization."
Pasichnuk is the second Arizona State player to sign an NHL contract. Goalie Joey Daccord signed with the Ottawa Senators last April 1.
Arizona State launched its men's ice hockey program in 2015-16 and started play in NCAA Division I the next season. Pasichnuk was the first Arizona State player to score 100 points (107).
"For four years, Brinson was our heartbeat," Powers told AZCentral.com. "He could have gone anywhere he wanted and he chose to take a chance on ASU, and it has paid off for everyone.
"We wouldn't be where we are without him, and personally, I can't wait to see him start his career in the NHL. We're all so proud of him."
