BostonBruins.com - Former Bruins defenseman Leo Boivin passed away on Saturday at the age of 90. The Prescott, Ontario, native played 12 seasons in Boston from 1954-66 and served as the club's captain from 1963-66. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1986.

Boivin was originally signed by the Bruins in 1949 before being traded the following year to Toronto where he spent the first three-plus seasons of his NHL career. The blue liner was shipped back to Boston early in the 1954-55 campaign and went on to help lead the Black & Gold to back-to-back Stanley Cup Final appearances in 1957 and 1958. He was an All-Star in 1961, 1962, and 1964.

The rugged defenseman, who checked in at just 5-foot-8 and 183 pounds, played 717 games for the Bruins, notching 47 goals and 164 assists for 211 points. Boivin's Bruins career came to an end when he was traded to Detroit in 1966 along with Dean Prentice in exchange for Gary Doak, Bill Lesuk, and Ron Murphy.
Overall, Boivin suited up for 1,150 career NHL games across 19 seasons with Boston, Toronto, Detroit, Pittsburgh, and Minnesota.
Boivin retired following the 1969-70 season and went on to become a scout and later a coach for the OHA's Ottawa 67's. He returned to the NHL as interim head coach of the St. Louis Blues in both 1975-76 and 1977-78.
