Gunnarsson said on his social media posts about the mask that this was the first mask he's made for Lundqvist that didn't have lightning bolts.
"It is a design which (lives and breathes) the city of Washington," Gunnarsson said. "It is a tribute to the fans of [the] Capitals."
The 38-year-old goalie spent 15 seasons with the New York Rangers and signed a one-year, $1.5 million contract with the Capitals after he had the final season of his contract bought out by the Rangers on Sept. 30.
Lundqvist previously posted drawings of his new pads, which similarly featured the Capitol and stars and stripes.
