Soderberg signed a one-year contract with the Blackhawks on Dec. 26 and can become an unrestricted free agent after the season. The 35-year-old forward has scored 15 points (seven goals, eight assists) in 34 games this season.
Soderberg played 321 games for Colorado from 2015-19 before being traded to the Arizona Coyotes. Selected by the St. Louis Blues in the second round (No. 49) of the 2004 NHL Draft, he has scored 295 points (110 goals, 185 assists) in 586 regular-season games with the Blackhawks, Arizona Coyotes, Avalanche and Boston Bruins and 12 points (two goals, 10 assists) in 41 Stanley Cup Playoff games.
The Avalanche also acquired defenseman Patrik Nemeth from the Detroit Red Wings on Friday for a fourth-round pick in the 2022 NHL Draft. He played 142 games for Colorado from 2017-19 before signing with the Red Wings as a free agent.
"We're a firm believer in chemistry, having character guys," Avalanche general manager Joe Sakic said. "We know them really well, they know our system, both of them were popular guys in the dressing room when they were here and I know excited they are to come back. Our dressing room's excited our guys are excited to have them back.
"They both fill the needs that we wanted to get accomplished. We were looking to getting a defending defenseman, a PK guy, and Patrik did a great job for us before. He's had a great two years in Detroit. (Erik Johnson) is out at least for the rest of the regular season and we wanted to make sure we had that big body, defending body, and can eat up some of the penalty killing minutes so we can rest some of the other guys."

Adam Gaudette was traded to Chicago by the Vancouver Canucks on Monday for Matthew Highmore. The forward has scored 52 points (21 goals, 33 assists) in 153 regular-season games and no points in 10 playoff games.
The Blackhawks (19-18-5) are fifth in the Discover Central Division, four points behind the fourth-place Nashville Predators, and visit the Columbus Blue Jackets on Monday (7 p.m. ET; NHLN, TVAS, BSOH, NBCSCH, NHL.TV). The top four teams in each of the four divisions will qualify for the playoffs.
Dickinson, a 23-year-old center, has played for Colorado of the American Hockey League and Utah of the ECHL this season.
Rolston, a 19-year-old forward chosen by the Avalanche in the fifth round (No. 139) of the 2020 NHL Draft, scored six points (one goal, five assists) in 28 games during his freshman season at the University of Notre Dame. His father, Brian Rolston, played 1,256 NHL games and won the Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils in 1995.
