DET@CHI: Kane toe drags and scores his 400th NHL goal

CHICAGO -- Patrick Kane scored his 400th NHL goal for the Chicago Blackhawks in a 7-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings at United Center on Sunday.

Kane dragged the puck around defenseman Filip Hronek on a 2-on-1 before beating Thomas Greiss with a wrist shot for a 5-1 lead at 9:10 of the third period. Kane is the 100th player to score 400 NHL goals.
"When I was getting toward the top of the [face-off] circle, I saw [Hronek] was going to try and slide, tried to slow up, make a move and hit a spot with my shot," Kane said. "Nice to see it go in, but no matter the milestone, you're always just trying to make the right play out there."
The No. 1 pick in the 2007 NHL Draft, Kane has played 996 games and is fourth in Blackhawks history in goals (400), third in assists (656) and fourth in points (1,056).
Kane had two assists, Alex DeBrincat had a goal and three assists, Ryan Carpenter scored twice, and Kevin Lankinen made an NHL career-high 44 saves for Chicago (12-7-4), which split a two-game set against Detroit after a 5-3 loss here Saturday.
"I don't think it was a perfect game by any means, but we were pretty tight defensively, especially the first two periods," Blackhawks coach Jeremy Colliton said. "We would've loved to create a little more, but overall we did what we had to do, and when we finally broke through, we relaxed and began to make more plays, execution went up."

DET@CHI: Hagel, Kubalik team up for nifty goal

Sam Gagner and Evgeny Svechnikov scored for Detroit (7-14-3), which lost for the first time in three games. Greiss made 25 saves in his first start since Feb. 19.
"We pushed back even after they scored a couple of the goals, the third and fourth goals," Red Wings coach Jeff Blashill said. "We had moments of pushback, but you just can't give up easy chances. That's the thing like you've got to be able to push without giving up easy chances. Unfortunately, that's not what happened tonight."
Nikita Zadorov ended his 39-game goal drought with a wrist shot from the high slot for a 1-0 lead at 11:41 of the first period. He has six points (one goal, five assists) in 23 games this season, his first with Chicago after he was acquired in a trade from the Colorado Avalanche on Oct. 10, 2020.
Carpenter made it 2-0 at 17:13 when his shot from the right hash marks deflected off defenseman Alex Biega's face.
Gagner redirected Jon Merrill's shot from the point 38 seconds later to make it 2-1 at 17:51.

DET@CHI: Suter snipes puck in off iron to double lead

Pius Suter extended the lead to 3-1 at 1:32 of the third period with a wrist shot off the post.
Carpenter scored on the power play to make it 4-1 at 7:06. It was his first multigoal game in the NHL.
"It's always nice," Carpenter said. "When I was out with [COVID-19], that's always tough, but the boys were winning. It's always nice to contribute."
Svechnikov scored a power-play goal to cut it to 5-2 at 12:11.
Dominik Kubalik scored on a tap-in at 14:14 to make it 6-2, and DeBrincat scored at 15:23 for the 7-2 final.
"We can't give up odd-man rushes and leave our goalie out to dry," Gagner said. "[We] have to find a way to buckle down defensively there. It's the only way we're going to be able to create and come back in that game is to make sure we're solid defensively."
