DET@DAL: Gurianov cuts inside and nets wrister

Jake Oettinger made 20 saves for the Dallas Stars to win his first NHL start, 7-3 against the Detroit Red Wings at American Airlines Center on Thursday.

"This means everything to me," said Oettinger, who made two relief appearances for Dallas during the Stanley Cup Playoffs last season. "I've obviously been around this group for a long time, so getting an opportunity to come in and help out is a very special moment."
Ty Dellandrea scored his first NHL goal and had his first NHL assist in his fourth game.
"That's Jake's first win of many in his career and Ty's first goal of many in his career," Stars coach Rick Bowness said. "It's nice they got them on the same night because they are both a huge part of this organization going forward."

Denis Gurianov had a goal and two assists, and Miro Heiskanen had three assists for the Stars (4-0-0), who defeated the Red Wings 2-1 in overtime Tuesday and have won the first four games of a season for the first time since 2010-11.
"I'm very happy with this start, considering everything we went through in training camp (when the Dallas practice facility was closed due to a COVID-19 outbreak) and all the injuries we have right now," Bowness said. "Everyone who has stepped up has done a wonderful job."
The Red Wings (2-5-1) went 0-3-1 on their first road trip of the season. Jonathan Bernier allowed three goals on 19 shots in the first and second periods before leaving with a lower-body injury. Thomas Greiss made six saves after relieving Bernier to start the third period.
"I think we took a real step back on this trip," Detroit coach Jeff Blashill said. "It isn't just results, we didn't play good hockey. We've got to find a way to regroup because we need a lot of guys to play way better than this."
Dellandrea scored at 14:52 of the third period, tipping in Heiskanen's pass on the power play to increase the lead to 5-3.
"That was just an unbelievable play by Miro," Dellandrea said. "I just tried to get to the back door quick for a rebound or a pass, and he put it through that tight gap."
Justin Dowling scored into an empty net to make it 6-3 at 16:24, and John Klingberg scored at 18:29 for the 7-3 final.
Joe Pavelski gave the Stars a 1-0 lead at 11:36 of the first period after Tanner Kero took the puck away from Patrik Nemeth.

"I saw the puck squirt out of the zone and I knew [Nemeth] would have to turn to get it, so I really tried to jump on it," Kero said. "The coaches really want us to pressure the defensemen and make it hard on them."
Andrew Cogliano put the Stars ahead 2-0 at 7:56 of the second period, poking home a rebound after defenseman Christian Djoos lost the puck.
Valtteri Filppula scored his first goal of the season to cut it to 2-1 at 11:59, but Gurianov gave Dallas a 3-1 lead at 14:45.

Jamie Oleksiak increased the lead to 4-1 at 4:18 of the third period, beating Greiss with a point shot through traffic.
Tyler Bertuzzi scored a power-play goal at 7:26 to pull Detroit within 4-2, and Danny DeKeyser cut it to 4-3 at 13:04 when his point shot deflected in off Dowling's elbow.
"We finally got one on the power play and we got within 4-3, but then it got away from us again," Red Wings captain Dylan Larkin said. "We can't continue to let two points get away from us every night."
