How Stanley Cup champion Lightning were built
Roster shaped by drafting Stamkos, Vasilevskiy, Hedman, Kucherov, Point

Of the 25 players to appear in at least one Stanley Cup Playoff game, 11 were selected by Tampa Bay in the NHL Draft, eight were acquired via trade and six were signed in free agency.
Forward Pat Maroon (2019, St. Louis Blues) was the only player on the roster
to have won the Stanley Cup
previously.

FORWARDS
Anthony Cirelli, C: Selected in the third round (No. 72) of the 2015 NHL Draft, Cirelli scored 44 points (16 goals, 28 assists) in 68 regular-season games and nine points (three goals, six assists) in 25 playoff games.
Blake Coleman, C: Acquired in a trade with the New Jersey Devils on Feb. 16 for forward prospect Nolan Foote and a first-round pick in the 2020 NHL Draft, Coleman had one assist in nine regular-season games with the Lightning and 13 points (five goals, eight assists) in 25 playoff games.
Barclay Goodrow, C: Acquired in a trade with the San Jose Sharks on Feb. 24 with a third-round pick in the 2020 draft for forward Anthony Greco and a first-round pick in the 2020 draft, Goodrow had two assists in eight regular-season games with the Lightning and six points (one goal, five assists) in 25 playoff games.
Yanni Gourde, C:Signed as a free agent March 10, 2014, Gourde scored 30 points (10 goals, 20 assists) in 70 regular-season games and 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) in 25 playoff games.
Tyler Johnson, C: Signed as a free agent March 7, 2011, Johnson scored 31 points (14 goals, 17 assists) in 65 regular-season games and seven points (four goals, three assists) in 25 playoff games.
Alex Killorn, LW: Selected in the third round (No. 77) of the 2007 NHL Draft, Killorn scored 49 points (26 goals, 23 assists) in 68 regular-season games and 10 points (five goals, five assists) in 24 playoff games.
Nikita Kucherov, RW: Selected in the second round (No. 58) of the 2011 NHL Draft, Kucherov scored 85 points (33 goals, 53 assists) in 68 regular-season games and 34 points (seven goals, 27 assists) in 25 playoff games.
Pat Maroon, LW:Signed as a free agent Aug. 24, 2019, Maroon scored 23 points (nine goals, 14 assists) in 64 regular-season games and scored six points (one goal, five assists) in 25 playoff games.
Ondrej Palat, LW: Selected in the seventh round (No. 208) of the 2011 draft, Palat scored 41 points (17 goals, 24 assists) in 69 regular-season games and 18 points (11 goals, seven assists) in 25 playoff games.
Cedric Paquette, C: Selected in the fourth round (No. 101) of the 2012 NHL Draft, Paquette scored 18 points (seven goals, 11 assists) in 61 regular-season games and three assists in 25 playoff games.
Brayden Point, C:Selected in the third round (No. 79) of the 2014 NHL Draft, Point scored 64 points (25 goals, 29 assists) in 66 regular-season games and scored 33 points (14 goals, 19 assists) in 23 playoff games.
Steven Stamkos, C:Selected with the No. 1 pick in the 2008 NHL Draft, Stamkos scored 66 points (29 goals, 37 assists) in 57 regular-season games. A lower-body injury sidelined him for all but one game in the postseason. Stamkos scored a goal in 2:47 of ice time in a 5-2 win against the Stars in Game 3 of the Cup Final.
Mitchell Stephens, C: Selected in the second round (No. 33) of the 2015 draft, Stephens scored six points (three goals, three assists) in 38 regular-season games and one goal in seven playoff games.
Carter Verhaeghe, C: Acquired in a trade with the New York Islanders on July 1, 2017 for goalie Kristers Gudlevskis, Verhaeghe scored 13 points (nine goals, four assists) in 52 regular-season games and two assists in eight playoff games.
Alexander Volkov, RW: Selected in the second round (No. 48) of the 2017 NHL Draft, Volkov had one assist in nine regular-season games and no points in one playoff game.
DEFENSEMEN
Zach Bogosian:Signed as a free agent Feb. 23, Bogosian had two assists in eight regular-season games with the Lightning and four assists in 20 playoff games.
Erik Cernak: Acquired in a trade with the Los Angeles Kings on Feb. 26, 2017 with goalie Peter Budaj and a seventh-round pick in the 2017 NHL Draft for goalie Ben Bishop and a fifth-round pick in the 2017 draft, Cernak scored 12 points (five goals, seven assists) in 67 regular-season games and four assists in 25 playoff games.
Braydon Coburn: Acquired in a trade with the Philadelphia Flyers on March 2, 2015 for defenseman Radko Gudas and two picks in the 2015 draft, Coburn scored four points (one goal, three assists) in 40 regular-season games and no points in three playoff games.
Victor Hedman: Selected with the No. 2 pick in the 2009 NHL Draft, Hedman scored 55 points (11 goals, 44 assists) in 66 regular-season games and won the Conn Smythe Trophy as the MVP of hte playoffs with 22 points (10 goals, 12 assists) in 25 games.
Ryan McDonagh:Acquired in a trade with the New York Rangers on Feb. 26, 2018 with forward J.T. Miller for forwards Vladislav Namestnikov and Brett Howden, defenseman Libor Hajek and a first-round pick in the 2018 draft and a conditional pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, McDonagh scored 12 points (one goal, 11 assists) in 50 regular-season games. He scored five points (one goal, four assists) in 22 playoff games.
Jan Rutta: Acquired in a trade with the Chicago Blackhawks on Jan. 11, 2019 with a seventh-round pick in the 2019 draft for defenseman Slater Koekkoek and a fifth-round pick in the 2019 draft, Rutta scored seven points (one goal, six assists) in 33 regular-season games and one assist in five playoff games.
Luke Schenn: Signed as a free agent July 1, 2019, Schenn scored three points (one goal, two assists) in 25 regular-season games and two assists in 11 playoff games.
Mikhail Sergachev: Acquired in a trade with the Montreal Canadiens on June 15, 2017 with a second-round pick in the 2018 NHL Draft for forward Jonathan Drouin and a sixth-round pick in the 2018 draft, Sergachev scored 34 points (10 goals, 24 assists) in 70 regular-season games and 10 points (three goals, seven assists) in 25 playoff games.
Kevin Shattenkirk: Signed as a free agent Aug. 5, 2019, Shattenkirk scored 34 points (eight goals, 26 assists) in 70 regular-season games and 13 points (three goals, 10 assists) in 25 playoff games.
GOALIES
Curtis McElhinney: Signed as a free agent July 1, 2019, McElhinney was 8-7-3 with a 2.89 GAA and .906 save percentage in 18 regular-season games (18 starts). He has not played in the postseason.
Andrei Vasilevskiy:Selected in the first round (No. 19) of the 2012 draft, Vasilevskiy was 35-14-3 with a 2.56 goals-against average, a .917 save percentage and three shutouts in 52 regular-season games (52 starts) and was a finalist for the Vezina Trophy. He started all 25 playoff games for the Lightning (18-7-0, 1.90 GAA, .927 save percentage).
COACHING STAFF
Jon Cooper, coach:Hired March 25, 2013 to replace Guy Boucher, Cooper is the longest tenured coach in the NHL. He is 347-180-50 in 577 regular-season games and the regular season and 54-38-0 in the postseason. He's coached the Lightning to the Stanley Cup Playoffs in six of his seven full NHL seasons. Cooper previously coached Tampa Bay's American Hockey League affiliate in Norfolk (2010-12) and Syracuse (2012-13).
Todd Richards, assistant: Hired on June 6, 2016, Richards previously coached the Columbus Blue Jackets for parts of five seasons (2011-16) and the Minnesota Wild for two seasons (2009-11).
Jeff Halpern, assistant: Promoted on June 22, 2018, Halpern joined the Lightning in 2015-16 as player development coach and was an assistant with Syracuse (AHL) for two seasons (2016-18).
Derek Lalonde, assistant: Hired on July 12, 2018, Lalonde previously spent two seasons as coach of Iowa, the Wild's AHL team, from 2016-18.
Frantz Jean, goaltending coach: Hired on Sept. 7, 2010, Lightning goalies have been Vezina Trophy finalists five times in his 10 seasons (Andrei Vasilevskiy, 2017-20; Ben Bishop 2013-14, 2015-16).
GENERAL MANAGER
Julien BriseBois:Promoted to general manager Sept. 11, 2018 replacing Steve Yzerman, BriseBois guided the Lightning to a League-record tying 62 wins in his first season (2018-19). He previously served as assistant GM of the Lightning for eight seasons (2010-18) and spent nine seasons in the Canadiens organization (2001-10).
