The forward left a 4-2 win against the Florida Panthers on Thursday with 10:42 remaining in the first period.
Stone did not practice Friday and will not play against the Edmonton Oilers at home Saturday (10 p.m. ET; CBC, SN, CITY, TVAS2, ATTSN-RM, ESPN+, SN NOW).
"He was in this morning, he's still getting some tests done," Vegas coach Bruce Cassidy said Friday. "He won't play tomorrow. We'll put him as week to week for now and see where we're at once he gets back on the ice."
Stone is second on the Golden Knights with 38 points (17 goals, 21 assists) in 43 games behind Chandler Stephenson (40 points) and is second in goals behind Reilly Smith (18).
Stone has not missed a game this season after being limited to 37 games last season because of injuries. That includes a back injury that sidelined him for 26 games from Feb. 9-April 9. Vegas went 12-13-1 without its captain, who returned for the final eight games of the season, but failed to qualify for the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in its five seasons to that point.
Stone had back surgery May 19, but Cassidy would not say if the injury was to his back.
"It's his upper body," he said. "They're still going through some different things with it."
The Golden Knights (28-13-2) lead the Pacific Division by two points ahead of the Los Angeles Kings.
