Raymond's 2 goals lift Red Wings over Wild

DETROIT -- Lucas Raymond scored his first two goals of the season, and the Detroit Red Wings defeated the Minnesota Wild 2-1 at Little Caesars Arena on Saturday.

"It feels good to get two tonight, but I haven't been too worried about it," Raymond said. "I just focus on playing the right way, and I knew good things would happen."
Dylan Larkin had the secondary assist on both goals.
"Whether the puck has gone in or not, I know we've been creating chances," said Larkin, the Red Wings captain. "[Raymond] puts himself in great position, and he's got a quick release. I think I had two in the eighth game of my sophomore year, so I told him we're tied."

MIN@DET: Raymond scores 2nd of night in 2nd period

Ville Husso made 30 saves for Detroit (4-2-2), which lost four of its previous five (1-2-2).
"They are an unbelievably fast team coming out of their end, but we made sure they didn't get the easy offense they've had in their last few games," Red Wings coach Derek Lalonde said. "They had a couple 2-on-1 and 3-on-2 breaks in the first period, but we were much better about that in the second and third."
Kirill Kaprizov scored for the Wild (3-4-1), who had a four-game point streak end. Filip Gustavsson made 23 saves.
"I think we probably hurt ourselves by starting so well," Minnesota coach Dean Evason said. "We had four good chances right away, and we thought we could continue that all night. We shifted into playing as a skill team, when what we're about is skill and grit."

MIN@DET: Raymond gets Red Wings on board in 1st

Kaprizov gave the Wild a 1-0 lead at 1:28 of the first period off a pass from Mats Zuccarello, but Raymond tied it 1-1 at 16:51 from the slot.
Minnesota nearly took the lead on multiple occasions, but Ryan Hartman hit the post midway through the second, and Detroit then killed more than a minute of a power play after Andrew Copp lost his stick.
Raymond put the Red Wings in front 2-1 with 4.5 seconds left in the second, jamming Dominik Kubalik's backdoor pass under Gustavsson on the power play.
"That's a tough play because I have to respect the shooter," said Gustavsson, who played for the first time since Oct. 17. "[Kubalik] makes the backdoor pass and Lucas kind of fans on it, but it goes in off my back leg. That's really frustrating given how little time was on the clock."
Raymond didn't know how close he was to running out of time.
"I had no idea," he said. "I was just trying to get the puck to the net."

MIN@DET: Kaprizov opens scoring in 1st period

The Wild outshout the Red Wings 10-1 in the third period, but after pulling Gustavsson with 2:03 remaining, they managed only one shot on goal.
"We've practiced that situation enough to know what we're supposed to be doing out there without needing a timeout," Minnesota captain Jared Spurgeon said. "We had a couple looks that we should have probably put in, but we didn't make it happen."
