On Tap PHI at WSH

Welcome to the NHL On Tap, a daily look at the games on the NHL schedule. There is one game on the schedule for Wednesday, which will be nationally televised in the United States and in Canada:

Game of the day

Philadelphia Flyers at Washington Capitals (7:30 p.m. ET; MAX, truTV, TNT, SN1, TVAS)

The lone game of the evening puts the spotlight of TNT’s national broadcast on two teams playing the second half of a back-to-back. And when it comes to the Flyers (1-4-1) visiting the Capitals (4-1-0) at Capital One Arena, it truly is a tale of teams going in opposite directions. That was never more evident than in Washington’s 4-1 victory at Philadelphia on Tuesday, the opening game of “NHL Frozen Frenzy” in which all 32 teams were in action. In the case of the Flyers, they did not start on time, allowing two short-handed goals from Nic Dowd and Andrew Mangiapane in the first period and trailed the rest of the way. One day later, all eyes will be on several Flyers who have yet to register an even-strength point: forwards Travis Konecny, Morgan Frost, Owen Tippett and defenseman Jamie Drysdale. That’s a key reason why Philadelphia has lost five straight (0-4-1). Meanwhile, Washington will attempt to sweep the two-game set for its fifth consecutive win. Pay attention to Mangiapane, who will be attempting to score for a third straight game.
