Philipp Kurashev, Ilya Samsonov and Jeremy Swayman were the only players awarded a contract by an independent arbitrator of the 22 restricted free agents who were scheduled for a salary arbitration hearing.
Kurashev became the first player to have a hearing after not agreeing to a contract prior to his hearing date (July 20). The forward was awarded a two-year, $4.5 million contract ($2.25 million average annual value) with the Chicago Blackhawks on July 23.
Samsonov, a goalie, had a hearing July 21 and was awarded a one-year, $3.55 million contract with the Toronto Maple Leafs two days later.
Swayman, also a goalie, was awarded a one-year, $3.475 million contract with the Boston Bruins on Aug. 1, two days after his hearing.
Forwards Drew O'Connor of the Pittsburgh Penguins (two years, $1.85 million), Troy Terry of the Anaheim Ducks (seven years, financial terms not disclosed) and Brandon Scanlin of the New York Rangers (one year, financial terms not disclosed) each signed a contract Wednesday; they had been the three remaining players with hearings scheduled.
Notable players who filed prior to the July 5 deadline included forwards Ross Colton (Colorado Avalanche) and Brett Howden (Vegas Golden Knights), defenseman Vince Dunn (Seattle Kraken), and goalie Filip Gustavsson (Minnesota Wild).
Last offseason, 24 restricted free agents filed for salary arbitration and two had a team-elected hearing scheduled. Forward Yakov Trenin of the Nashville Predators was the only player awarded a contract by an independent arbitrator following his hearing; he received a two-year, $3.4 million contract ($1.7 million AAV) on Aug. 5, 2022, three days after his hearing.
