NHL teams post tributes on Veterans, Remembrance Day

Videos, messages honored service members in U.S., Canada

NHL teams took to their social media channels to pay tribute to service members for Veterans Day in the U.S. and Remembrance Day in Canada.

Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Ryan McDonagh shared a message of thanks alongside the Stanley Cup.
"Winning this requires dedication and a team's willingness to sacrifice for one another," he said. "That selflessness, however, pales in comparison to what is asked of the men and women in our nation's military every day. We're grateful for your service and appreciate the many sacrifices you and your family make while defending our freedom here at home and abroad."

Minnesota Wild forward Nick Bjugstad and assistant director of player development Matt Hendricks recently hosted military families at the United Heroes League, a non-profit that keeps military kids healthy and active through sports.
"It's not easy to go to war for your country and serve for your country, and these types of people are the most respected in my book," Bjugstad said.

Los Angeles Kings captain Anze Kopitar expressed his gratitude for veterans while also sharing a photo from the 2020 Navy Federal Credit Union NHL Stadium Series.

The New York Islanders shared a video of a ceremony held last week at UBS Arena in which 30 men and women took the Oath of Enlistment to become U.S. Marines.

Montreal Canadiens great Bob Gainey, did a reading of the poem, "In Flanders Fields," that is synonymous with Remembrance Day.
