Nils Hoglander signed a two-year, $2.2 million contract with the Vancouver Canucks on Sunday. It has an average annual value of $1.1 million.
The 22-year-old forward, who was a restricted free agent, had nine points (three goals, six assists) in 25 games for the Canucks last season but was assigned to the American Hockey League on Dec. 17. With Abbotsford, Hoglander had 32 points (14 goals, 18 assists) in 45 regular-season games and six points (three goals, three points) in six Calder Cup Playoff games.
"Nils learned a lot this past season, especially playing meaningful playoff games in Abbotsford," Canucks general manager Patrik Allvin said. "It's not easy to start the year in the NHL and then be sent down to the American League, but we were impressed with the way he took that challenge head on. He worked hard on his game and give credit to (coach) Jeremy Colliton, his staff, and our development team as well for helping Nils improve on things during the year. This experience should really help Nils compete for a spot on our team at training camp this fall."
Selected by Vancouver in the second round (No. 40) of the 2019 NHL Draft, Hoglander has 54 points (26 goals, 28 assists) in 141 regular-season games.
