Philadelphia Flyers center Claude Giroux skated Wednesday for the first time since he had surgery to repair his right hip and bilateral lower abdominal muscle tears on May 17.
Giroux was expected to need 10-12 weeks to recover; Wednesday was nine weeks and one day since the surgery.

Giroux led the Flyers with 67 points in 78 games last season. He had one assist in six Stanley Cup Playoff games against the Washington Capitals in the Eastern Conference First Round.
Giroux was named to Team Canada for the World Cup of Hockey 2016, which starts Sept. 17 in Toronto.
