Sidney Crosby 4.21

Sidney Crosby donated 100,000 meals to the Greater Pittsburgh Community Food Bank on Monday.

The contribution from the Pittsburgh Penguins captain equates to 120,000 pounds of food distributed across the organization's 11-county service area in southwestern Pennsylvania through its multiple food assistance programs, including a network of 365 pantries, drive-up distributions and home delivery service.

"I saw the people of Pittsburgh coming together to help one another and I wanted to be a part of that," said Crosby, who had 47 points (16 goals, 31 assists) in 41 games before the NHL season was paused on March 12 due to concerns surrounding the coronavirus. "The Food Bank and its staff have done an amazing job providing for so many people and I am proud to partner with them during this challenging time."

During the Food Bank's response to COVID-19 over the past seven weeks, it has delivered more than 4.2 million pounds of food, an increase of one million from this time in 2019.

"Sidney is such an incredible person both on and off the ice," said Food Bank president and CEO Lisa Scales. "He's provided great joy to this region during his tenure with the Penguins, and now he is helping us provide food assistance to those who need it most during the COVID-19 crisis."
