Olczyk, who was diagnosed with colon cancer Aug. 8, was given a standing ovation by the crowd at Scottrade Center during the first period of the Blues game against the Blackhawks on Wednesday Night Rivalry.
Olczyk, 50, is a Chicago native, and calls national games on NBC and NBCSN. He also has been the regular color commentator for Blackhawks games on NBC Sports Chicago and WGN since 2006-07. Olczyk has been undergoing cancer treatment but called his first game of the season for NBCSN alongside partner Mike "Doc" Emrick on Wednesday.
"For the first time in my life, I've had everybody tell me I'm going to beat this thing and that's been the greatest support that I've had," Olczyk said on air. "I don't know what my schedule is going to be, but when I'm feeling good, Doc, I want to be next to you; I want to be in the broadcast booth in Chicago … but I can't be more thankful from all the support I've had."
