The Colorado Avalanche held on to No. 1 for the fifth straight week. The Florida Panthers remain No. 2, and the Carolina Hurricanes (No. 3) and Tampa Bay Lightning (No. 4) flipped spots to round out the top five.
The Los Angeles Kings were the only team to enter the rankings this week, at No. 16. The Dallas Stars, who were No. 16 last week, dropped out.
To create the NHL.com power rankings, each of the 14 participating staff members put together his or her version of what they think the Super 16 should look like. Those are submitted and a point total assigned to each.
The team that is selected first is given 16 points, second gets 15, third 14, fourth 13 and so on to No. 16, which gets one point.
