Thomas Greiss agrees to contract with Islanders

The New York Islanders agreed to terms with goaltender Thomas Greiss on a three-year contract Monday. The contract is worth $10 million, Newsday reported.
Greiss, who turned 31 on Sunday, is 14-7-3 with a 2.25 goals-against average and .928 save percentage in 25 games this season. He could have become an unrestricted free agent this summer.

With Jaroslav Halak out because of a lower-body injury, Greiss led the Islanders to their first series win in the Stanley Cup Playoffs since 1993 last season, when the Islanders defeated the Florida Panthers in the Eastern Conference First Round in six games.

Halak was placed on waivers before being sent to Bridgeport of the American Hockey League on Dec. 31, paving the way for Greiss to become New York's No. 1 goalie.
Greiss signed a two-year, $3 million contract with the Islanders on July 1, 2015. He is 73-48-18 with a 2.41 GAA, a .919 save percentage and six shutouts in 155 NHL games with the San Jose Sharks, Arizona Coyotes, Pittsburgh Penguins and Islanders.
