Tony DeAngelo stays with New York Rangers

Tony DeAngelo agreed to a contract with the New York Rangers on Thursday. Terms were not disclosed.

The 24-year-old defenseman, who was a restricted free agent, avoided a salary arbitration hearing scheduled for Oct. 20. He had NHL career highs in goals (15), assists (38) and points (53) in 68 games with the Rangers last season, and had one assist in three games in the Stanley Cup Qualifiers.

Selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the first round (No. 19) of the 2014 NHL Draft, DeAngelo has scored 105 points (24 goals, 81 assists) in 200 regular-season games with the Rangers and Arizona Coyotes.

With goalie Alexandar Georgiev also agreeing to a contract Thursday, the Rangers have two players with salary arbitration hearings scheduled: forwards Ryan Strome (Nov. 5) and Brendan Lemieux (Nov. 6).
