Kings at Flyers | Recap

PHILADELPHIA -- Anze Kopitar and Kevin Fiala each scored two goals for the Los Angeles Kings in a 7-3 win against the Philadelphia Flyers at Wells Fargo Center on Thursday.

Warren Foegele had a goal and an assist, and Tanner Jeannot scored for Los Angeles (19-9-4), which won for the eighth time in 10 games (8-1-1). Darcy Kuemper made 24 saves.

Tyson Foerster had two goals and an assist, and Noah Cates scored for Philadelphia (14-15-4), which lost 6-4 at the Detroit Red Wings on Wednesday. Aleksei Kolosov made 19 saves.

The turning point of the game came at 19:16 of the second period when Kopitar scored to tie it 3-3. A loose puck on the ice skidded under Kolosov's glove and Kopitar slid it over the goal line.

"Kopi's goal at the end of the second was massive," Foegele said. "Coming into the dressing room, tie game on the road. This group seems to battle hard in the third, and that's what we did there for the last 20 [minutes]."

The Flyers, who scored two goals in the second while outshooting the Kings 15-8, felt the shift in momentum.

"Those last-minute goals ... we come back, have a lead, it hurts you," Flyers coach John Tortorella said. "Can't blame it just on that. It's a big play, could have come into the third period with a lead."

Foegele put the Kings ahead 4-3 at 1:54 of the third period, redirecting Jordan Spence's shot from the right point past Kolosov.

"I just think we started the game, maybe the first 10 minutes, playing our game, what we would call Kings hockey," Los Angeles coach Jim Hiller said. "And then it was just a matter of whose game were we going to play in the third period. I thought we played our game. Really happy and proud of the guys to be able to come out that way in the third and play that game."

Kopitar pushed it to 5-3 at 10:39 when he scored from in close off a centering pass from Alex Turcotte.

Kopitar leads the Kings with 37 points (10 goals, 27 assists) in 32 games, and at age 37 his average of 1.16 points per game is the best of his 19-season NHL career.

"To be his age and to be out there playing against the other team's best players night after night, and then making an offensive contribution too, while leading the team, that's really difficult to do," Hiller said. "I know that. It's difficult to do it at 25, never mind at 37."

Quinton Byfield's empty-net goal at 16:23 made it 6-3, and Fiala closed the scoring at 17:34, scoring off a behind-the-back pass from Alex Laferriere.

The Kings felt the push at the end was needed after they couldn't build on a third-period lead in a 3-2 overtime loss at the Pittsburgh Penguins on Tuesday.

"I didn't think that Pittsburgh game was to our standard," Foegele said. "We have a high standard, and we keep everyone accountable. Third periods are something we take a lot of pride in. And in that Pittsburgh game, the third period, we let it slip. Tonight, we knew 20 minutes to go, play the right way, Kings hockey, and that's what we did."

LAK@PHI: Fiala on the break, whips it past Kolosov to put the Kings on the board in the 1st

Fiala gave the Kings a 1-0 lead at 10:53 of the first period. Phillip Danault's stretch pass sent Fiala in alone, and he beat Kolosov from in close.

"I just wanted to get the puck to settle a little bit," Danault said. "Blocked shot and then Kevin was open, and just a heads-up play."

Cates tied it 1-1 at 14:11 when he lifted a backhand over Kuemper's left pad.

Jeannot put the Kings ahead 2-1 at 1:31 of the second period, knocking in a loose puck in the crease past Kolosov.

Foerster tied it 2-2 at 11:30 when he scored on a loose puck in the slot, then put the Flyers ahead 3-2 at 15:04 by one-timing a Morgan Frost pass from behind the net past Kuemper.

"That's what I'm trying to do, get to the net," Foerster said. "Our line is playing decent and we're supporting each other well and we know the puck is going to the net. That's where I've got to go."
