Panthers Partner with WM

OUR MISSION: “Protect the Den”

The Florida Panthers are committed to empowering our fans and communities to live sustainably on and off the rink. As the impacts of climate change become more pronounced across our state, it’s clear that everyone has a part to play in strengthening the resiliency of our diverse communities in Miami and beyond. With the help of WM, our Official Sustainability Partner, the Panthers are working to identify opportunities to minimize our environmental impacts while educating our fans on the pressing need to collectively combat climate change.

OUR AMBITIONS

The Panthers’ sustainability initiatives were designed to align with Project Drawdown, a leading climate action resource that aims to halt the climb of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere by 2050 by advancing effective, science-based climate solutions and strategies.

OUR IMPACT AREAS

  • Resource Efficiency
  • Installed new high-efficiency HVAC units and LED lighting and have reduced GHG impacts associated with fan travel by incentivizing rideshare, carpool and public transportation.
  • Materials Management
  • Implemented arena-wide recycling program and working to transition beverage service ware to aluminum containers, an infinitely recyclable material.
  • Champion Nature
  • Exploring a biodiversity and conservation fund to help protect the Florida Everglades and the local habitat that is home to our mascot and official state animal, the Florida Panther.
  • Leadership and Education
  • Welcomed WM as our Official Sustainability Partner and established a GHG Baseline to inform future sustainability strategy and set data-informed impact reduction goals.

“Our organizational pillars—curating a world-class experience for our fans, investing in our people and players, and serving the community—were the driving force behind these capital improvements. From new guest amenities to sustainable technology, we couldn’t be more excited to deliver these arena-wide enhancements or more appreciative of our team’s hard work in bringing them to life.”

HOW YOU CAN HELP

By supporting the Panthers, you are also supporting the fight against climate change. We’ve made it our goal to help preserve Florida’s unique natural ecosystems and ensure that future generations will have a healthy state to call home, and your contributions at the arena and home can add up to positively impact the environment around you. Here are some ways you can help shape a more sustainable future.

  • Be thoughtful about material. Small changes can help minimize your overall generation of waste. Consider reducing your use of single-use plastics and recycling or reusing what you can. Visit wm.com/recycle to learn more.
  • Take advantage of sustainable transportation. Carpool to reduce single passenger transportation miles—look out for new drop-off areas close to the Panthers arena.
  • Shop and eat locally. Support local agriculture by buying local food whenever possible and stacking up a plant-rich plate. Cut down on food waste by making a list and composting scraps.
  • Invest in energy efficiency. Install LED lighting, get an AC tune up, use ENERGY STAR appliances, and check with your utility provider for available energy efficiency rebates.
  • Take action in your community. Help us to protect the Florida Everglades and Florida Panther habitat by minimizing water usage and the use of pesticides and chemicals, which are absorbed into the groundwater and can harm the water and nature in the Everglades.
