BOS-5-Takes-16x9-1-29-23

SUNRISE, Fla. --The Florida Panthers get a whole week to enjoy this one.
Sending the Panthers into the All-Star break on a high note, Sam Reinhart connected on a one-timer just 17 seconds into overtime to lock in a 4-3 win over the Boston Bruins at FLA Live Arena on Saturday.
Setting the stage for those heroics, Panthers captain Aleksander Barkov tied the game with just three seconds left in the third period after Boston had gone up 3-2 less than a minute earlier.
Improving to 24-22-6, Florida sits just three points out of a playoff spot.
"Every point matters," Reinhart said. "Against the best team in the league, to be able to come back like that on home ice to get the win gets us some momentum. We can] enjoy the break a little bit more now than if the game went the other way. Hopefully we can build off that."

1. REINO REJOICES

Reinhart's reaction said it all.
Capping off an incredible come-from-behind effort on home ice, Reinhart teed up a pass from Barkov and blasted a one-timer past Jeremy Swayman from near the top of the left circle to lock in the 4-3 win for the Panthers just 17 seconds after the puck had dropped in the extra frame.
Entering the matchup, Boston had been 22-0-0 when leading after the first period this season.
"It was a gutsy one to be able to come back," said Reinhart, who raised both his arms to the sky before being mobbed by teammates following his goal. "It's a big effort to pull that one out."

Making a dent on the scoresheet in nine of the last 11 games, Reinhart has logged five goals and eight assists during that torrid stretch. As it stands now, he ranks fifth on the Panthers in points (39) and third in goals (17). Of those goals, eight have come on the man advantage.
Reinhart's rocket in overtime also marked his second game-winning goal this season.

2. CAPTAIN CLUTCH

This is what leading by example looks like.
Refusing to go quietly into the night after falling behind 3-2 on a goal from David Pastrnak with less than a minute left in regulation, the Panthers received a huge goal from their captain when Barkov snapped a shot past Swayman to make it 3-3 with just three seconds left on the clock.
Prior to the goal, every player on the ice for the Panthers was giving it everything they had.
"It was electric on the bench," Panthers forward Sam Bennett said when asked about his reaction to the goal. "I want to see that footage of our bench. We went pretty nuts. You could really see how much our team wanted to win tonight. Those are fun games to be a part of."

Racking up three points (one goal, two assists) against Boston, Barkov, who was named to the All-Star Game on Friday, extended his career-long point streak to 11 games. Climbing Florida's all-time list, his point streak is now tied with Pavel Bure for the fifth-longest in franchise history.
Additionally, with his assist on Reinhart's game-winning goal, Barkov recorded the 600th point of his NHL career. Just the second player to hit that mark with the Panthers, the 27-year-old superstar is also just the ninth Finnish-born player to reach the 600-point plateau in the NHL.
In terms of unsung statistics, Barkov went 15-for-23 (65%) in the faceoff circle against the Bruins, including winning the opening draw in overtime that eventually led to Reinhart's goal.
"Just his presence out there is something everyone feeds off of," Reinhart said of Barkov. "A massive one with a second left. When we need someone to step up, he's there to do it."

3. TIP YOUR CAP

This was a goal that took multiple viewings to really appreciate.
Flying into the zone on an odd-man rush, Brandon Montour cut across the ice before somehow tipping a wrist shot from Barkov straight through Swayman's five-hole with the back of his stick blade to get the Panthers on the board and make it 1-1 at 8:55 of the second period.

Riding the longest point streak ever by a D-man in franchise history, Montour has recorded a point in each of his last nine games, racking up three goals and six assists in that stretch. In the midst of a breakout season, his career-high 43 points rank eighth among NHL defensemen.
A standout in the possession game against Boston, the Panthers led 26-14 in shot attempts and 13-8 in scoring chances when Montour was on the ice at 5-on-5, per NaturalStatTrick.com.

4. BENNY GETS IT BACK

Bennett joked that he'd thankfully be able to sleep soundly after last night's win.
After accidently netting an own-goal while trying to re-direct a cross-ice pass out of harm's way in the second period, the grizzled forward didn't sulk. Instead, he gathered himself and got his redemption in the third period when he sniped a wicked shot past Swayman to make it 2-2 at 8:29.
"I would've had some nightmares if we didn't get the win tonight," said Bennett, who showed off his exceptional mental fortitude. "It felt good that we were able to get back and get the win."

Finding the back of the net three times in the last seven games, Bennett continues to be an important staple in the center of the second line for the Panthers. Bringing physicality as well as skill to each and every one of his shifts, he dished out a team-high five hits against the Bruins.
In terms of possession numbers, Bennett boasted a team-best 65.38 CF% at 5-on-5.

5. THE LYON'S DEN

Alex Lyon did far more than just hold down the fort against Boston.
Facing an onslaught of shots from the moment the puck dropped, the veteran call-up shined between the pipes for the Panthers while turning aside 38 of 40 shots. Earning first-star honors, he made 33 saves during the first 40 minutes to keep Florida in the fight early on.
Per NaturalStatTrick.com, Lyon went an astounding 19-for-20 against high-danger shots.
"He was huge," Bennett said. "Coming in against the top team in the league and putting on a great performance like that is impressive. He was a huge part of our win tonight."
Making six straight appearances after being recalled from the AHL on Jan. 10 to fill in for Sergei Bobrovsky and Spencer Knight, Lyon went 3-2-1 to help the Panthers pick up seven key points.
Prior to his call-up, Lyon had appeared in just 24 games in his NHL career.
"I've never felt like I haven't had the talent to play here, it's just been that hurdle mentally," Lyon said. "I feel like I came closer to bridging that gap in these last six games. For my personal growth, it was awesome."
