The Florida Panthers have been given a facelift.
One of the most-active teams in the league on the opening day of the NHL's free agency period, the Panthers signed five new players last week, including defenseman Radko Gudas and forwards Carter Verhaeghe, Vinnie Hinostroza, Alexander Wennberg and Ryan Lomberg.

Just before he fired up the phone lines during free agency, general manager Bill Zito also made a trade -- already his third since being hired by the Panthers just over a month ago -- sending forward Cliff Pu to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for defenseman Markus Nutivaara.

Going back to the trade that brought in hard-nosed forward Patric Hornqvist on Sept. 24, Florida has already added a whopping seven new players during Zito's rapid restructuring of the roster.
With these additions, the Panthers expect to be a much harder team to play against in 2020-21.
"Speed, intelligence, character, compete, consistency, discipline, intellect, there's so many different adjectives we can use to describe what hard to play against means," Zito said. "It's more than size, strength and physical play. Hopefully, we get a little bit of all of it."
What's even more impressive, however, is the Panthers aren't done just yet. In addition to extending qualifying offers to six players -- Henrik Borgstrom, Emil Djuse, Mason Marchment, Sam Montembeault, Aleksi Saarela and MacKenzie Weegar -- Zito and his staff are also keeping their options open when it comes to potential trades and signings in the coming weeks.
"We'll still continue to try and improve the team every single day in any way that we can," Zito said. "We're working."

NHL DRAFT RECAP

The Panthers ended up with quite the haul during last week's 2020 NHL Draft.
After using the 12th overall selection in the first round to scoop up Finnish center Anton Lundell, the organization went on to select eight other players throughout Rounds 2-7, including forwards Emil Heineman (43rd overall), Ty Smilanic (74th overall) and Justin Sourdif (87th overall).
In total, Florida left the event with five forwards, three defensemen and one goaltender.
"I was pretty thrilled with the work that the scouts did," Panthers general manager Bill Zito said after the draft, which was held digitally due to the pandemic. "We had a lot of our higher-rated picks available to us later than we had ever anticipated. It was quite exciting… I had a couple of very nice conversations with players. I had the good fortune of telling them, 'Hey, when the pick just prior to ours went and you weren't taken, there was a little cheer in our room.'"

SUPPORTING THE FOUNDATION

There's plenty of ways to support the Florida Panthers Foundation right now.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, fans can currently purchase special hockey-themed Día de los Muertos t-shirts. Additionally, there are also several mystery pucks still available. These cool pucks could potentially be signed by one of several Panthers, including Aleksander Barkov.
With all proceeds benefitting the Foundation, click HERE to peruse some items.

The organization also currently has a handful of items up for auction, including one of the first-ever signed Panthers jerseys from two-time Stanley Cup champion Patric Hornqvist, who was traded to Florida last month after spending six seasons starring for the Pittsburgh Penguins.
