Forecast-16x9-04-25-22

It's almost time for the real thing.
With 79 games down and three more to go, the Panthers will wrap up their historic regular season this week with games at Boston (Tuesday), Ottawa (Thursday) and Montreal (Friday).
Despite having their franchise-record winning streak snapped at 13 games with a loss to the Lightning on Sunday, the Panthers, who have already locked up the Atlantic Division and No. 1 seed in the Eastern Conference, enter this week sitting atop the NHL standings at 57-16-6.

In the driver's seat for the Presidents' Trophy, they lead the Avalanche by four points. "It's my favorite time of year," Panthers forward Mason Marchment said of the team's impending postseason games.
"I love winning. I love competing. It's going to be exciting. I'm ready to go."
From playoff prep to partying, here's what to look out for this week around the Territory…

THE GAMES

Tuesday: at Boston Bruins, 7 p.m. ET
The Panthers will kick off their final road trip of the regular season with a matchup against the Bruins (49-25-5) at TD Garden on Tuesday. Holding onto the first wild card spot in the Eastern Conference, Boston has won four of its last five games and enters this week fresh off a 5-3 win at Montreal on Sunday. Brad Marchand ranks first on the Bruins in scoring with 76 points (31 goals, 45 assists), while David Pastrnak is second in points (73) and first in goals (39). One of the key pieces behind Boston's fourth-ranked defense (2.67 goals allowed per game), Jeremy Swayman has gone 23-13-3 with a .915 save percentage and three shutouts during his rookie campaign. Earning points in each of their two previous meetings with the Bruins this season, the Panthers followed up a 4-1 win on Oct. 27 at home with a 3-2 shootout loss on the road on Oct. 30. In this rubber match, look for Aleksander Barkov to touch twine. Needing just one more goal to become the second player in franchise history to join the 40-goal club, the captain has found the back of the net five times in his last four games to increase his career-high goal total to 39.

Thursday: at Ottawa Senators, 7 p.m. ET
Heading into Canada for their penultimate game of the regular season, the Panthers will open up a back-to-back set with a battle against the Senators (31-41-7) at Canadian Tire Centre on Thursday. With their young talent starting to come together, the Senators have earned wins in each of their last three games, including a 6-4 victory over the Canadiens on Saturday. Brady Tkachuk leads Ottawa in scoring with 62 points (29 goals, 33 assists), while Josh Norris and Tim Stützle have racked up 53 points each. Key pieces of the team's rebuild, all three of those players are under the age of 23. Between the pipes, Anton Forsberg has earned the bulk of the starts for the Senators, posting a 20-17-4 record with a .917 save percentage. Florida has won two of its three meetings with Ottawa this season, including a 4-3 shootout win in their last tilt on March 26. Increasing his career-high point total every time he cracks the scoresheet, look for Sam Reinhart to do some damage in this matchup. Third on the team in scoring with 79 points (31 goals, 48 assists), he's registered seven goals and seven assists over his last 10 contests.

Friday: at Montreal Canadiens, 7 p.m. ET
In their final tune-up before the playoffs begin, the Panthers will close out their regular season with a matchup against the Canadiens (20-49-11) at Bell Centre on Friday. Hoping to land the No. 1 overall pick in the 2022 NHL Draft, Montreal has lost each of its last nine games to drop to last place in the league. During that losing streak, they've been outscored 42-19. Nick Suzuki leads the Canadiens in goals (21), assists (38) and points (59). After him, fellow youngster Cole Caufield is second in scoring with 40 points (20 goals, 20 assists). Thus far, those are the only two players on Montreal's roster with at least 40 points this campaign. In net, Carey Price has started four of the last six games while posting a 0-4-0 record with a .853 save percentage. For the Panthers, look for Jonathan Huberdeau to close the book on his stellar season with a bang in his hometown. In the race for the Art Ross Trophy, the all-star winger enters this week sitting second on the NHL's scoring leaderboard with a career-high 115 points (30 goals, 85 assists).

PROSPECT SPOTLIGHT

Cole Schwindt's first full regular season in the AHL is in the books.
Helping the Checkers win the Atlantic Division and punch their ticket to the Calder Cup Playoffs, the 21-year-old stood out as one of the team's most-consistent producers on offense, finishing second among Charlotte's forwards in scoring with 40 points (19 goas, 21 assists) in 72 games.
Making his presence felt early on in the season, his biggest game came back on Nov. 13 when he scored his first professional hat trick in a 4-0 win over the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins.

Taken by the Panthers in the third round (81st overall) in the 2019 NHL Draft, Schwindt made the leap to the pros and played in 10 games with the Syracuse Crunch in the AHL in 2020-21.
