The Panthers enter this week with a little cushion in the standings.
Although they saw their five-game winning streak snapped with a 3-2 shootout loss at Los Angeles on Sunday, the Panthers currently sit at 40-13-6 and hold a four-point lead over the cross-state rival Lightning for first place in the Atlantic Division with 23 games left to play.
With a chance to widen that gap, the Panthers will wrap up their road trip with this week with games at San Jose (Tuesday), Vegas (Thursday) and Anaheim (Friday) before heading home.
Getting a quick breather in South Florida, they'll then embark on another trip to Canada.

"Winning on the road in the NHL is tough, and it was another reminder tonight how hard it is night in, night out," Panthers in interim head coach Andrew Brunette said after the loss to the Kings, which also snapped the team's road winning streak at five. "We'll be better next game."
Already the best team in the league at home, the Panthers have been making great strides in their play outside of their friendly confines. Sticking with one of their New Year's resolutions, they've gone 10-3-2 on the road while outscoring the opposition 61-43 dating back to Jan. 1.

THE GAMES

Tuesday: at San Jose Sharks, 10:30 p.m. ET
The Panthers will open up their week by closing out their season series with the Sharks (26-25-7) at SAP Center on Tuesday. In their first meeting this season, Sam Bennett scored 1:08 into overtime to lift the Panthers to a 5-4 win in Sunrise on Jan. 29. Although they've won just four games since that loss, the Sharks enter this week riding high after sweeping a home-and-home series with the Kings to close out last week. After winning 4-3 in overtime on Thursday on the road, they cruised to a 5-0 win at home on Saturday. Timo Meier leads San Jose in points (57) and is tied with Tomas Hertl for the most goals (25). Always a source offense on the blue line, Brent Burns has dished out the most assists (34). Splitting time in net, James Reimer has gone 15-12-5 with a .916 save percentage, while Adin Hill is 10-11-1 with a .906 save percentage. As for the Panthers, look for Jonathan Huberdeau to have a hand in at least one goal in this game. Leading the NHL with a career-high 65 assists - a mark that also stands as a single-season franchise record -- the all-star winger has tallied at least one assist in 26 of his last 29 games.

Thursday: at Vegas Golden Knights, 10:30 p.m. ET
Heading outside of the Golden State for one game, the Panthers will pay a visit to the Golden Knights (32-25-4) at T-Mobile Arena on Thursday. Dangerously close to falling outside of the playoff picture in the Western Conference, the Golden Knights enter this week with just a one-point lead over the Stars for the second wild card spot after seeing their losing streak hit four games with a 6-4 defeat at Columbus on Sunday. During that four-game skid, Vegas has been outscored 16-8. In their previous meeting with the Golden Knights this season, Spencer Knight made 24 saves and Sam Bennett scored twice to lead the Panthers to a 4-1 victory at FLA Live Arena on Jan. 27. Jonathan Marchessault leads Vegas in goals (25) and points (47). Second in points with 45, Chandler Stephenson has tallied 14 goals and 31 assists. With Robin Lehner dealing with an upper-body injury, Lauren Brossoit has started two of the last three games for the Golden Knights. In 23 contests this season, he's gone 10-8-3 with a .899 save percentage. Looking at the Panthers, how about a big game from Anthony Duclair? Tied for second on the team with a career-high 24 goals, the speedster has scored four times in his last five outings.

Friday: at Anaheim Ducks, 10 p.m. ET
Cruising back into California to close out their four-game trip, the Panthers will get their first look at the Ducks (27-25-10) when the two teams go head-to-head at Honda Center on Friday. In the midst of a rather tough stretch, the Ducks have dropped each of their last four games, including a 4-3 loss against the Islanders on Sunday. Tied for the fewest standings points accumulated in the NHL since Jan. 31, Anaheim has gone 4-9-2 while being outscored 61-39 in that span. An all-star this season, Troy Terry leads the Ducks in goals (29) and points (51). After him, rookie Trevor Zegras has chipped in 44 points (16 goals, 28 assists). Between the pipes, John Gibson has earned the majority of starts while posting a 17-18-8 record with a .906 save percentage. At the other end of the ice, it wouldn't be surprising to see Aleksander Barkov go off in this contest. Leading the Panthers with 26 goals, the captain has notched 15 points (three goals, 12 assists) over his last eight games, and in six of those games he produced a multi-point performance.

PROSPECT SPOTLIGHT

It was quite a week for Owen Tippett in Charlotte.
After racking up eight points (four goals, four assists) in just four games with the Checkers, the 23-year-old forward was deservedly honored as the AHL's "Player of the Week" on Monday. On Friday, Tippett posted one goal and two assists in 5-1 win over Springfield.

Seeing time in both the NHL and AHL this season, Tippett, who was drafted with the 10th overall pick back in 2017, has recorded 18 points (six goals, 12 assists) in 12 games with the Checkers and 14 points (six goals, eight assists) in 42 games with the Panthers.
