SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has agreed to terms with defenseman Radko Gudas on a three-year contract.
"Radko plays an imposing, defensive game," said Zito. "He is a hard-working defenseman who plays the game with an edge. Radko brings the type of physicality and tenacity to our group that we want as we add to our roster."
Gudas, 30, appeared in 63 regular games with the Washington Capitals in 2019-20, recording 15 points (2-13-15) and played in five postseason games, posting two assists. The 6-foot, 205-pound native of Prague, Czech Republic, led all Washington defensemen during the regular season with 164 hits.
He has played in 479 career NHL regular season games for Washington, the Philadelphia Flyers (2015-16 to 2018-19) and Tampa Bay Lightning (2012-13 to 2014-15), producing 120 points (26-94-120) and 619 PIM. Over 20 career playoff games he has registered three assists.
Originally selected by the Tampa Bay Lightning in the third round (66th overall) of the 2010 NHL Draft, Gudas won the 2013 Calder Cup Championship with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL). He was named a 2013 AHL All-Star and during the 2012-13 season, he led the league with a plus-32 rating.
On the international stage, Gudas played for the Czech Republic at the 2019, 2018 and 2017 IIHF World Championships and the 2010 and 2009 IIHF World Junior Championships. He represented his country at the 2014 Sochi Olympic Winter Games.
