SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has agreed to terms with goaltender Sam Montembeault to a one-year, two-way contract.
Montembeault, 24, appeared in 13 games with the Syracuse Crunch of the American Hockey League (AHL) in 2020-21, posting an 8-4-1 record, a .898 save percentage, 2.86 goals against average and one shutout.
The 6-foot-3, 199-pound native of Becancour, Quebec has played in 25 career NHL games with Florida (2018-19 to 2019-20), owning a 9-8-3 record, .892 save percentage and 3.20 goals against average.
A 2019 AHL All-Star, Montembeault has played in 104 career AHL games with Syracuse (2020-21) and the Springfield Thunderbirds (2017-18 to 2019-20), compiling a 39-48-18 mark, a .900 save percentage, 3.17 goals against average and five shutouts.
Prior to his professional career, Montembeault played a franchise-record 154 regular season games for the Blainville-Boisbriand Armada (2013-14 to 2016-17) of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League (QMJHL). With the Armada, Montembeault posted an 87-40-17 record, .899 save percentage, 2.54 goals against average, 12 shutouts and was named to the 2016-17 QMJHL Second All-Star Team.
Montembeault was originally selected by Florida in the third round (77th overall) of the 2015 NHL Draft.
