SUNRISE, Fla. - Florida Panthers General Manager Bill Zito announced today that the club has claimed defenseman Casey Fitzgerald off waivers from the Buffalo Sabres.
Fitzgerald, 25, has produced three points (0-3-3) over 23 games with Buffalo in 2022-23.
The 5-foot-11, 188-pound native of North Reading, Mass., has skated in 59 total NHL games with Buffalo from 2021-22 to 2022-23, registering nine points (0-9-9) and 40 penalty minutes.

Fitzgerald has also appeared in 79 games with Buffalo's American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate, the Rochester Americans, logging 34 points (9-25-34) from 2018-19 to 2021-22.
Prior to his professional career, Fitzgerald skated in four seasons (2015-16 to 2018-19) with Boston College (NCAA), compiling 82 points (17-65-82) over 151 regular season contests. While with the Eagles, Fitzgerald was named to the Hockey East All-Rookie Team (2015-16) and Hockey East Second All-Star Team & Best Defensive Defenseman in 2017-18 after helping B.C. capture the Hockey East regular season title. He served as captain in each of his final two seasons.
Fitzgerald skated in two USHL seasons with the U.S. National Team Development Program before attending B.C., producing 11 points (5-6-11) over 55 games.
Originally selected by Buffalo in the third round (86th overall) of the 2016 NHL Draft, Fitzgerald earned gold medals representing the United States at the 2017 IIHF U20 and 2015 World U18 Championships.
